Shit Puddles Along the Way

It's not like me to post so few and far in between.

I've been on this wild good chase for The Internet Connection. It's great that the only help I needed from my father to apply for a phone line and streamyx was his permission, supplementary card and IC number. Other than that, I did everything myself. I even walked three rows of shops during my lunch break to the TMnet centre to apply for a -thank god- phone line.

since I was doubtful about my area actually having Streamyx, I decided to use the Tmnet prepaid plan, which is quite an ingenious idea that I never knew existed! The only thing wrong with it is the rates. I mean RM20 and you can't even use it for more than 15 hours. That's like, not even a day. I have formed a complex with streamyx and it is irreversible. You know like an enzyme-substrate complex? Haha.

But I decided that RM30 for a starter pack was okay, albeit a little steep. But whatever it takes to fill the void, I'll do it. I even bought a RM20 top up card. So, fine, after they installed the phone line the following day, I immediately punched the given username and password in and waited for that nostalgic screech from the conventional modem. It was like magic when MSN and Explorer could run. I was so happy!!

There were instructions on the Prepaid card to register, and I thought, "Huh? Why register? I'm online already liao what."

After half an hour, the connection timed out.

Nonchalantly, I tried to re-connect.

After 12176624 redials, my heart fell to my stomach.NO INTERNET!!! NoOOOoo.

You know the feeling when you anticipate something so bad and it comes and then it crumbles in your own hands because you are so so so so stupid?

I should have gone to the given website to register my account. If I did, I would not have to save this blog entry in my computer before uploading it onto my blog tomorrow(thursday). If I had the internet, I can say things like, "The biggest joke of today would be the mistaken identity of the ear squatting chinese woman. It's just so funny how all the efforts to strengthen ties with China wasn't even really required in the first place. What about the chinese translators placed at the airport? LOL"

But I can't. So, I don't get to participate in the hype of yesterday's news. :(

Hence, I connected to the uni's local area network and completed the activation, gave myself a pat on the back and left the card with all its details in the anatomy hall(where I went online).

I thought I was able to go online without a worry already.

I came home, had trouble again, called up the hotline and they were very nice about it. They even asked me for my serial number and card number ...and guess what? I found out that I lost the card. NOOOOOoO!!!!!!!!!

The shit stirring event of the day would definitely be me bumping into our good friend Mr. Security Guard. You know how I usually get reprimanded for what I wear before I ENTER the campus? See, this temporary campus has a main campus facing a row of shoplots(where the cafeteria and my other classes are located) and I was walking along the shoplots area making a trip from my lecture hall to the generic lab above the cafeteria. I won't try to defend myself this time because what I wore was a white sleeveless top with straps so thin I'm amazed it is even visible to the naked eye..but anyway...the new twist of events to the entire securityguard-my clothes-me chronicles is that he reprimanded me OUTSIDE of the campus. I know it's still campus grounds but NOT ONCE has it happened before for a guard to stop someone OUTSIDE the campus. Oh god.

He just gave a sigh and said, "ID."

I was like, "But sir, my coat and ID is upstairs."

I've decided to take on another approach. I was freaking bitchy the previous time, it's time to berbodek.

"I don't want to talk to you about your dress code already. Just give me your ID." he huffed.

So after alot of wheedling and begging, he let me off the hook for 'one last time'.

I said my thanks, promised that I will always my jacket and called him an asshole shit face fucking monkey bedebah under my breath as I turned away.

As soon as I got back to the Generic Lab(where the wonderful wonderful internet connection is), I emerged from my jacket like a true rebellious butterfly. Ahh! For god's sake this is Malaysia not fucking Alaska. Will the damn security guard pay for my rash medication? I don't think so.

As Li Shen keeps saying, "Ngo dei lei Kedah gom loi, sui gom lui,"(We come to Kedah so long, sueh so long). True lah!! Not a week goes by without anything to piss me off.:(

But I have to be thankful that my house's feng shui is not as bad as my other classmates' just down the road. For 4 consecutive weeks, each of the girls got dumped by their long term boyfriends one by one. Suddenly, 3 years, 4 years etc etc don't mean a thing no more once long distance comes into the picture. I've got 4 decent single girls as friends. Anybody interested?

Bad luck aside, ... OH. Who am I kidding. How can I forget to blog about this one incident over the weekend that made me and my classmates swear to scrub ourselves raw with pamelo leaves?(Non-chinese: Bathing with Pamelo leaves wards off bad luck).

It's the mother of all bad lucks.

See, on Thursday night, we bought our bus tickets for 2.30pm on Sunday. When we reached Pudu on Sunday, a fierce old Chinese Uncle screamed, "ALOR SETAR!!! ALOR SETAR!!!!" at us. So we meekly followed him out of Pudu to a really nice looking bus and assumed that he was pissed at us because we were a little late. (We were there on time, for the record.) We made our way to the comfy seats at the back and put our extremely heavy bags(each one of us had a laptop each, it's not funny) away. I rest my head on the head rest and waited for the engine to roar. Almost immediately, a conductor asked us to get out of the bus.

He told us that apparently the bus we were on was overbooked and that we had to wait till 4.30pm for the next bus. We were outraged!! We booked like three days in advance and we get this shit?! If there were no spaces left don't sell to us lah right?? Anyway, Li Shen was the fierce one among us(I know all of you would have thought that I will always be the fiercest woman ever) and kept saying, "tak boleh tak boleh" to the bus driver. She claims that that's the only Malay word she remembers from school. HAhah. But anyway, we finally gave in because the conductor said that it's not his fault as his duty was to make sure that the buses flow in and out of Pudu properly.

We went back to Counter 47 to give the stupid ticket man a good piece of our mind. But it wasn't the same guy and he kept saying that it wasn't his fault and that he can't do anything. Li Shen said, "If it's not your fault then why are you sitting here?" Grrrr. No sense of teamwork, some bus companies.

We were already half dead because the bus dropped us outside of the platforms which was quite a long walk away from the station itself. Then we had to climb some stairs and CLIMB somemore stairs to get across the road. We went to KFC to chill and to wait for 4.30pm to come around. I don't care liao, I look horrible whenever I hunch but this time, I was walking with a 90 degrees posture and my face upwards(in case I bang into people) with the most fucked up look I could ever muster. I WAS FURIOUS. You cannot imagine how heavy my bag was. It was so bad that all of us had aches the following day. Tsk tsk. I treated the girls to some snacks at KFC so that all of us will cool down a little more.

Then things started to look brighter. As always, after a fun weekend, my classmates will take my camera from me to scour through the many photos.

My single guy friends back home who appeared in my last photoblog would be happy to read this. Poh Yee, this classmate of mine, saw Kevin's photo first and squealed at how cute he was. I insisted that he was not single, and belonged to a good friend of mine, Liss. But when she saw him again she kept asking if he was single. LOL. She was in denial!

Then I told her, "Haiya! I show you somemore! Very good one!!" and proceeded to show her somemore. She was satisfied with almost all my choices! LoL!!

I sounded like a pimp wei..hahaha.. "Gentlemanly, soft spoken etc etc.." I listed out their good points and their name and age. HAHAHA. Poh Yee's eyes widened happily.

Among the lot, her favourite was E-Guy(she raved about you alot, E-Guy!), Chun Meng, Kwo Kuang and Joshua! From the single guys lah!

It was just so hilarious that my camera was like a brochure of cute guys for them to browse through and have their pick. LOL. They got so worked up arguing which guy was cuter than which guy and me sounding like a hamsap old pimp trying to market my imported gigolos, with the Ah-Beng VCD seller accent to boot. Hohohohoh.

Anyway, it was good fun to ease off the tension caused by the irresponsible Pudu bus people. Grr Grrr.

Maybe not everything is made of shit... the Streamyx people called me. Streamyx is coming in a week's time!! Please pray that shit does not happen again.

Random photos again:

Camwhoring with Lydia..

We actually screamed for the last picture. LOL.

Some of the strange things we do for our dentistry projects. No different from geography classes.

Another Weekend, Another Photoblog Overdose!

It was an eventful weekend! Nearly two hundred photos and classic moments to boot! By the way, nobody noticed the falling snow on my blog header? :(

I think one of the more amusing things in life is meeting old school teachers. Especially primary school ones.

Anybody remember Pn. Chang the science teacher from SRSS19?

I saw her just now at Yip Kee in Sunway Pyramid. It's quite daunting to go up to an old primary school teacher and tell her who you are because chances are that they don't recognise who the hell you are.

Another weird thing about saying hello to Pn. Chang was telling her that I'm "Pei Shan". It's been ages since I called myself Pei Shan. I know it's my chinese name and all.... *makes grim smile*... strange lah! But she remembers me! I reminded her that she thought me standard 5 science. The only other person that she can remember from my standard 5 class is the super smart Jade Ho. No surprises there.(Jade's a very popular girl, even back in primary school! Super smart because when she got 85% for her standard 6 science paper, she was crying and the entire class stood around her to comfort her. I got 80% for that test and was so happy already.)

Anyway, so Pn. Chang said, "Wah! You changed alot hor! I remember you used to wear glasses one hah!"

No kidding. (I'm the horrid one in the middle by the way!)

Then she asked, "So, you're in form5 now?"

I declare a public holiday for everybody. Someone FINALLY thinks that Jolene is younger than her actual age. I know it's nothing but I'm the girl who people ask "So, working now?" and
who sometimes has the misfortune to be mistaken as someone's mother. :(

:) It's nice to meet old teachers and allow them to see how we've grown. And that we're no longer the cry babies who cried when they forgot to bring their science latihan book.

Weng Lum called me yesterday and told me that he didn't actually get an exemption for not finishing national service, but a deferment. We were bitching kau kau on the phone while I was driving on the Federal Highway. Apparently there's a new ruling that those who did not finish national service will be put under deferment. :( Weng Lum and I will go to the headquarters in late December to kau tim everything. If all goes wrong, we'll have to go for national service AGAIN when we're well into our 20s. :(

I was telling my father about it and he got more excited about his idea for me to become a dentist in the army.

"Do your government service as a dentist in the armed forces la! Can get captain rank immediately! Think of it this way, you kill three birds with one stone! You can use this to replace national service, complete your compulsory government service, get a captain title," Dad said.

"I see. Got aircon one or not the clinic there?" I was sceptical.

"Haiyoh! Sure got one lah!" he said.

"Can I come home one ar?" I asked.

"You think they're gonna throw you in the middle of the jungle issit? There'll be proper bases for you to operate in one lah!" he reasoned.

"Will it be in Petaling Jaya?" I hoped.

"I think I'll just let nature take it's course lah,let her live her own life," Dad said to Mum, giving up hope in the conversation. Glad he realised that I'm a little too city-life to be a...hahahaha.. captain in the army... Hahahahaha..and that there's only so much future planning for me that he should do.

Anyway, I'm back this weekend because AIMST's dental students were invited to attend the 7th Annual Dental Student Conference in University Malaya. I was praying that I would not fall alseep...wanting to maintain a professional air and all that. Hehehe. But ended up swaying around in my seat. LOL. Embarassing.  I thought it would be dead boring but amazingly, they CAN be interesting.

11 of AIMST Pioneer Dental students.

When we went back to the university, UM's dentistry dean spoke to us and invited us to visit the simulator labs where the 2nd year students are having classes.

They were making dentures!

Got some students to pose for us. So cute and messy la they all.:)

Mr. Simulator.

The dental technician who was conducting the classes there said that dentists have to be very good with their hands. With all my plasticine creations, I seem to be heading towards the right direction. :D

We made friends with a second year dental student who explained to us about what he was doing. After we got friendlier, he asked, "So, have you started your tooth collection yet?"  And we're like, "HUH?"

Then he brings out a box of teeth.

We were a little weirded out but joked around and asked him to give some to us as souveniers lah. And you know what? He actually gave us a tooth each!!

Living giving candies to little kids. hehe.

UM is damn beautiful. If I had the..hahaha.. chance to study there, I'd definitely go.

On Friday evening, we went to Flaming Steamboat in Sunway. It was nice as 14 of us had steamboat together-gether! Pity many of us could not make it.

Or else it would've been another gargantuan fortnightly reunion(Some got bible study, some got coffeebean to work at, some are not in malaysia, some got Maxis to work for, some got AusEd to work for, some got flu to tend.).

By the way, Flaming Steamboat has a HUGE variety of food to choose from their buffet table. Drinks and ice cream also available at the buffet table.

We ate like pigs. RM16.60 per person! Good lah!

You have a choice of ching tong(clear soup) or tom yam soup.

She Dee and Chun Guan getting busy! One thing about steamboat is that they require alot of work.. and who likes to work when they are damn hungry?

Barry and E-Guy acting too cute.

See the amount of food? It's seriously worth it! Go, Go, Go!!

Manda, Me, She Dee.

Yes, I know my cleavage is screaming, "HIIIi!!!! I'M HERE!! YoOohoO!!" Barry was the first to give blunt-as-usual comment about its existence. I reasoned with him, "They've not seen the light of day for quite a while in Kedah. Thought it'd be nice to let them have some sunlight once in awhile." He nodded intellectually at my explanation.

Messy noodles.

Hahaha..this Kevin ar. We had to WAIT for him to finish camwhoring first then only he'll help us to take a group picture. Sheesh.

After dinner, we decided to surprise Mel at her workplace. The whole very bising 14 of us turned up at Coffeebean giving hugs all around. (Hsien met up with us there as well).

Despite my disgusting double chin, this picture still gets to go up! That's because Mel looks nice here! See what a great best friend I am! By the way, doesn't she look adorable in her Santa hat? She was forced to wear it. Hahhaha.

A long lost SU-ian. Koon Seng!

Amanda bought a ginger bread man because 'it was so cute!'

A very nice photo of E-Guy and Mel.

A paiseh group photo. (because had to ask a stranger to take)

Mel was sad that she was not included in the previous group pic. So we reenacted the pose just for her.

Camwhoring with Esther. It's been too long.

Pitying Mel for not being able to sit down and join us.

This is a cute photo of the guys waving their goodbyes when Esther and Hsien left.

Mel savouring a toffee!

Met up with Dennis, Joshua, Mel and Esther the following day for breakfast at Tanjung. It's only with this combination of mad people that I can laugh until I get a good tummy workout.

l-r: Mel, Dennis

l-r:
Me, Esther, Joshua.

Something Joshua said still gets me giggling until now.

He was telling us about his 13 year old brother(8 years younger than him!) and how the little brother is more happening than him when he was 13 years old himself. He seldom talks about his brother due to the age difference. But in recent years, he has been playing the matured korkor and brings his kid brother to the movies every now and then.

But the little boy is starting to get a life of his own.

One fine day, Joshua asked his brother, "Eh Andy, want to watch Chicken Little?"

Andy looked like he was having loads of difficulty trying to explain his situation to his brother. "Em, I've watched it with a friend(female friend somemore! ooo!) already..!"

Joshua was like, fine, fine. No problem. I think he said something like he bought the dvd after that or something.

Then when Harry Potter came out, Joshua tried again, "So, Andy, wanna go catch Harry Potter later?"

Poor Andy had the same look of difficulty on his face and said, "Erm, kor ar, I watched it with my friend already(same friend! eheehe!)...."

Poor Joshua had to download the movie after that. LOL. So kesian.

After breakfast, we headed over to pick Zhuo Yan and the poor guy did not know he was tagging along for shopping trip in Summit. Summit is almost like Sg. Wang, but not as nice. It still has a satisfying variety of things and really cheap as well too! It has got loads of stalls hence the name Air Con Pasar Malam.

l-r: Esther and Zhuo Yan.

Boho skirts!

See what I mean by cheap? I mean I know it looks damn lala. But it's in lala shops that you have to slowly sift through and finally coming across a true gem. It's all about luck!

Tie-tie pants only for RM10!! I bought a white one. But I think I am starting to regret it coz it resembles the pants that I was forced to wear for my maternal grandfather's funeral.

A bag shop was having a clearance sale. All bags at 50% off!!

L-r: Zhuo Yan and Mel.

This Zhuo Yan damn annoying. Back in Summit, I was telling him about something in a rather animated manner and suddenly he stood really close to me and poked the pimple on my forehead. So pain!! Hahahahaha. Burst already somemore. Jolene's pimple juice all over Zhuo Yan's finger. Serves him right. This is him trying to disturb me again. Somemore when I am driving. Tsk, tsk.

But all in all it's good to know that everybody can still communicate so well despite the distance we've had in the past few months.

Ooh! Here are some of my purchases from Summit!

RM5 feather earrings! It was at half price!

These were going at 50% off. The only pair left and it fit me perfectly. RM25.

I bought a bag from that clearance sale!! RM15 only some more!

Man, that's a damn long post. I wonder how many of you managed to stay awake until the end.

Best news in a long time: Dad gave me the green light to get my own streamyx connection in the hostel. YAYY!!! My life will be back to normal!!

Photos and Videos From Anatomy and Physiology Classes

This is the entry that you've all been dreading since I came up with that extremely vivid description of my first encounter with cadavers.

I was actually contemplating if I should put up pictures or not because I wasn't sure if I was going against any cadaver photography law. I did ask my lecturers if it was okay and they gave the green light..so..:)

Don't worry, I've got enough tact to put the pictures into links instead of an image straight onto my blog. If you want to see it, you click on the link. You don't see it, fine by me.

This cadaver is probably one of the more disgusting ones in the anatomy hall. It does not have a head and it's still got it's skin attached to its genitalia. I didn't mean to include it in the photo. I was seriously contemplating if I should include it in the few photos that I was planning to share with those who read my blog..but I put myself in the cadaver's shoes(eh, hehe). How would I feel if my private parts were put online for all to see? Of course I'd be damn pissed lah!! So I shall be a wee bit respectful.

You'll only get to see a hand and the guts.

We had our first Physiology practical today and we're currently studying about blood. We had to actually prick our own fingers to draw blood to drop some drops onto solutions that will allow us to know which blood group we belong to.

Typical lah, most of the girls in our class were too afraid to prick their own fingers. Then the lecturer asked for volunteers and our class monitor volunteered! Now, this lecturer is so violent he just jabbed the needle thingie(there's another name for it, can't remember) into the skin but it's not like your typical injection needle. This is some scary shit triangular type. "Why, all the better to draw your blood out with, my dear!" He stabs into the tip of your left ring finger, really hard. Our big sized tough guy class monitor screamed out loud when he was stabbed.

Then we were to start our practicals and nobody wanted to prick their own fingers. I was one of the handfuls who dared! Brenda and Carol became my lab partners and after multiple attempts of trying to poke myself, I was still unable to penetrate properly. Brenda suggested that I let the lecturer do it for me.

Bad move, dei.

He swabbed my finger with antiseptic and with a swift motion he stabbed the triangular metal thing into my left ring finger and I SWEAR it reached the spongey mesophil layer. LOL. I could feel the layers getting penetrated... it was like in a, "Prraaapp", kinda way. Not very smooth. You know like how you try to stab a mattress with a knife? Yeah!

I started to bleed profusely. Perhaps one of the more 'bleedable' ones in the class. Hehehe:) It's great fun though! I even volunteered myself AGAIN for the blood smear practical. It's not often that I get to see my own blood on the microscope. Fucking cool wei, never expected my own white blood cells to look like, well...a white blood cell. :)

Prof. Maurya poking my fingers to draw blood.

Putting blood on the solutions.

Brenda mixes the blood.

See? Some of them are coagulating already! :) I AM B+!

I bled quite alot.

Coagulation!

Brenda staining my blood smear.

I like the purple effect!

..and it goes under the microscope!

The dirtiest beaker....

And what do you know?? It WAS possible to take a photo of my blood smear through the microscope! Whoohoo! Damn cool! can you see my white blood cell? It is stained purple.

Another shot of my red blood cells. Cool leh!:)

Since I'm at it, I might as well entertain you with a couple of cockroach catching videos.

Ee Chean came over to help us kill a roach.

Wuan Phing kills an earwig!

Taken at one of the rest areas along the highway back from Kedah.:)

Hi, my name is Jolene and if there is a question in your head, this answer will definitely answer it: I was wrong and irrational. I was being a woman.

Jolene Lai, Jolene Lai,
Came to life in January and not July,
She is 19 years of age,
Can't wait to earn her own wage,
This dental student is home sick,
Will never be in Kedah for more than three weeks.

Subang Jaya is where she's from,
The only place she'll ever call home.
Has a boyfriend, a brother and a dog,
The things she says can give you a shock.

Especially for her father, who always gets a heart attack when he reads this blog.

Hey, rhymes!
