The Magical Rice Cooker

Sorry for the lack of updates.. I can only update during class hours and then my housemates want to go home and I depend on them fully for transport. Sigh.

I managed to cook spagghetti for my housemates with my rice cooker! Amazing! Thanks for the advice from fellow students in my cooking maggi mee post.

Shopping list for Tesco.

Actually, I got the idea from Jamie(my classmate) who managed to cook spagghetti with her rice cooker.

I put one and a half packet of spagghetti in. Took quite a while. My housemates kept coming in to look at the spagghetti and were criticising it non-stop.

I asked them if they wanted and they were like, "I want.......but I scared later not edible how?" or
"I don't want to lai si(leak shit) again laaa.."

-_-". Fine.

Narjit was kind enough to help me strain the excess water from the spagghetti.

Then it was time to heat the Prego sauce! Yay!

Heat and stir wei, heat and stir.

Cze-Yin testing my spagghetti.

Laughing after poking somemore fun at my noob spagghetti making skills.

Lie Yuen came over for dinner as well! I love this picture. HAHA.

Narjit belanja-ed us some of her deepavali cookies as desert.

Hehehe, actually, they said it was nice and even went for seconds. :) Next, will be broccoli with butter. That'll be another day. Another adventure for my magical rice cooker that has never boiled rice before.

Some random photos.. still not quite over my new camera yet.:P

Cafeteria food. On a good day, it sucks.

One of the corners in my room. I have a friend called Labah the Spider.

Labah was a horrible roommate.

Goodbye Labah. If only all roommates can be thrown away like that...*sighs wistfully*. Not that I have one, I'm just feeling sorry for some of my friends who have roommates.

Narjit's mee mamak at a nearby restaurant in our residential area.

After being away from Li Shen for a week.

Bak Kut Teh!! Ohmygod, *froths at mouth*, finally some meat to eat. Sad to say I haven't had meat in the past few days. Cafeteria's ones are usually drowned in curry and spices. Bleh. I'm protein deprived.

Psychology classes can be so boring, so I sneakily took a photo of Cze-Yin.

Told you it was boring. Li Shen's usual sleeping style in class. Hahahahaha.

It's the monsoon season now and alot of insects have taken shelter in our homes. (#*$#)(*$%^$... there was this cute little spider who decided to drop by. Bad move though.

Spider juice.

Since I like the colour of my notes, I shall let my notes camwhore a little:

Something about bone formation.

Something about pharyngeal arches.(thyroid, thymus etc etc.)

Formation of the heart.

And my pride and joy!! The arteries and the veins of the face, freehand!! Nice or not??? .... No point also, draw until so nice, still cannot remember.

On the way back from uni on Monday evening after the heavy downpour. Taken through Cze-Yin's car windscreen.

More National Service Photos

I know I said I would not blog anymore about national service. But pity the amount of photos that I have lying around, so I decided to upload it. While uploading it, I decided that I might as well continue with the final 11 national service diary entries.. but that'll have to wait till I'm back in Kedah. As for now, just enjoy the remaining photographs that I have to share.

This is how I blogged everynight back in National Service. The torchlight was my only source of light while the entire dorm is asleep. Sometimes Farah, who sleeps next to me would peer over and learn some English.

One of the fine days after a march rehearsal when we were taken for a field trip to Wetlands in Putrajaya.
l-r: me, josephine, tuan jaiz, yee ling, angel.

l-r: Naj, Me, Jan Sen

top l-r: Kim Seng, Ah Dong
bottom l-r: Angel, Me, Zaf, Man, Botak

Back in National Service, I wasn't worried if I got dirty. I don't know why.

The guy in the middle is our 'penghulu'. He is our leader.

Me and Sook Yee camwhoring around.

I think the guy on the left won the best national service trainee of Kem Templer. I read it in the papers awhile ago.

How a typical lunch was served. But this was much more fun! It was a picnic!

"Makan~!"

back l-r: Me, Loon, Wei Kiat
front l-r: Josephine, Yee Ling, Angel and Danial.

For the march, we had to make sure that our boots were fucking clean. Like sparkling.

Do you know that polishing boots encourages you to become compulsive obsessive?

After a march rehearsal in Putrajaya.

A nice shot of our trainers.

One of the last few nights of NS: At the burger stall.

Marching was tedious. At 3pm, we were all so damn tired.

Before I left, my company mates called the other trainees to come hang out at the burger stall.

Our residential cat, Kuching KN. KN stands for Khidmat Negara. It has a girlfriend somewhere. It used to paw at you if you did not give it your ikan keembung.

Cikgu Rahman and myself. He was the guy who could ensure that dicipline was top notch at our camp!

Farah and I. Damn, I really miss this girl the most. She was so innocent and so simple and we could click so well! We'd bitch together everynight before we fall asleep and we'd do night duty together and bitch somemore. She's one of the girls whom I'm still keeping in contact with.

l-r: Angel, Amy, Me, oh man I can't remember their names.

Nobody understood why the hell would I want to snap a photo of the many flags. Little did they know that I am a hardcore blogger.

"Satu hasrat, satu semangat, satu tekad!!" (One wish, one spirit, one determination!)

After the march, we hung around the monstrosities which were the huge ass Putrajaya government buildings and went trigger happy as it was my last day there.

Oh! By the way, this was my locker. :)  Such fond memories.

The Charlie girls came over to "ta chiu fu"(beat banana ash - haha, kidding, it means come to say hello in cantonese).
l-r: Vinci, Me, Amanda, Suki

That'll be Siti! We were playing this game during Kenegaraan classes. It required their team members to be blind folded and they have to listen to their leader's instructions and make their way back to the classroom without falling into the drains. :)

Then we have obstacles called the Penghalangs. They would have to distract the team members and throw them off course.

The moral of the game is that "a country must be united and not let foreign powers distract and sway them away".

There is progress..!

Obviously girls only can touch girls, boys must go play elsewhere.

A typical scenario in Kenegaraan class....ZzZzzZz.

My Kenegaraan  classmates. We don't follow our companies, we are reshuffled.

Thought I'd show you how a typical morning for us looks like. We have to gather at the assembly field before sunrise. These boys were late which is why they were running. Usually they would have to march in.

Our ever problematic Dobiman who wondered about my intentions for asking to have a photo with him. He thought I had other "intentions". Sheesh.

A handful of the chinese girls from camp who put together their snacks and gave it to me in a huge bag! You can see me holding that big bag of snacks. Until this day, I have yet to finish eating everything inside it. :)

The chinese boys from my company. They came to hang out with me last time before I left the next day.

Sook Yee and I all ready for the big march!

Angel and I in the dorm.

l-r: Cha Hui, Me, Hui Ying.

Ah Ling and I found some soldiers on Merdeka Day and got so excited and managed to take a photo with them. I asked them if they can pose with their guns, like hold it up, but they say cannot. HAiH.

More of my company mates.

All the girls in my camp.

All the boys in my camp.

The entire camp!

l-r: Pui Mun, Me, Yung Yung.

Anaathi's the one sitting on my right. I miss her. She and her thick indian accent which makes me laugh all the time.

back l-r: Aiz, Aliff, Man
front l-r: Danial, Me, Donut

Before I left, I was called on stage to give a goodbye speech and all that. I decided to ask the four companies to have a photo with me. This is a photo with the Bravo company.

Alpha company..!

Charlie company!

and of course, Delta!!!

Jan Sen and Naj told me that Alpha won the best company when National Service ended. Sigh. Wonder if I would've made a difference if I was there? Hahahaha.

Our very own entertainer Si Fu came up to sing some songs we learnt in camp as a goodbye present to me. I was taking photographs of the entire camp while he sang next to me. Haha. He could only sing the chorus and would mumble the rest.

Teha was pissed that I was leaving her. You can see how messy my space was. But I was sad and happy that I was leaving.

All in all it was a damn good experience. Just go if you ever have the chance to. If you can survive the Malaysian education system, National Service is no different lah.

Here're somemore photos from the
previous post.

Night Out At Halo Cafe, The Curve

Hanging out with Dennis, Hsin, Josh and Jill at Halo Cafe, The Curve on Thursday night was good. As always, I get my tummy workouts when I am with them. Laughed like mad all the way. Poking fun at the way Dennis has grown hair, Joshua telling me about how Ben Shyen nearly drowned in Tioman with a lifejacket on(To quote them, "Eh! BS, don't go into the bathroom, later you drown." Wahahhahaha.), Hsin telling us about her boyfriend's naughty school days' stories and Jill and her burger jokes.(What burger moves? Bergerak lah! Hahahahah! -_-").

The songs in Halo Cafe were mostly chinese and so were the patrons. Which is why we felt safe whilst discussing political stuff.Wakakaka.

This is Joshua.

Dennis trying to pan cute. -_-".

l-r: me and jill!

l-r: Hsin and Josh

Hsin and I were like snapping away the whole night. So what else is new?

I like this pic! Very candid. Surelah, who take one?:D

Dennis allowed me to hang my pink camera/handphone pouch on his ear. He's too nice to me.

Grape Milk Shake. Pretty good. ... it had to be. It was a whopping RM11.90. But for the company and the ambiance.......a sacrifice is worth it. :)

The band was pretty good! Especially this guy who grins and whistles through his teeth. He could even do the Super Mario themesong!! Amazing!!!! I was laughing all the way because he was just smiling and whistling through his teeth. He then did a rendition of Doraemon's themesong. Hahahahahahaha.... never laughed so hard.

We decided to go grab a bite at a nearby McDonalds' since we would have to pay through our noses if we stuck with Halo Cafe any longer.

Cheers! We had a mission. We had to make a dick shaped ice-cream. But failed. I was trying to do the mushroom head thing with the vein. Barry once said it was possible.

Camera was on the table so just pressed the button. Can you see Ronald McDonald peeking from behind the avalanche of fries?:D

Joshua and his fries.

Met up with Chien the next day at Pizza Uno and had a two hour long conversation with her. It was necessary. The woman was in UK for three weeks but decided to come home. Was carried away to her life in UK with her vivid descriptions of the place and all. It would be nice to play a foreigner every now and then.

l-r: Chien and I.

I saw this book decor idea in Axxez(is that how you spell it?) and they decorated it with sparkly beads. Covered the entire notebook with beads. Very nice! So I decided to get some and spice up some notebooks of mine back in Kedah! I even bought cute pills containers to contain 'em.

*heart, heart*

When I went over to my grandparents' home to put some joss sticks(Chong heong), my dad and brother saw this lovely morning dew from a far defracting light with utmost beauty. It's like a diamond in the sunlight. Hahaha, okay, shoot me for sounding damn poetic. But it was damn nice. You can't look at it for long because the intensity of light was so high!

Hi, my name is Jolene and if there is a question in your head, this answer will definitely answer it: I was wrong and irrational. I was being a woman.

Jolene Lai, Jolene Lai,
Came to life in January and not July,
She is 19 years of age,
Can't wait to earn her own wage,
This dental student is home sick,
Will never be in Kedah for more than three weeks.

Subang Jaya is where she's from,
The only place she'll ever call home.
Has a boyfriend, a brother and a dog,
The things she says can give you a shock.

Especially for her father, who always gets a heart attack when he reads this blog.

Hey, rhymes!
