Surprising Su-Chien

Yesterday morning, I overslept. I was supposed to meet CHee kiang for breakfast at 8.30.. and tada!! I woke up at 9 fucking 15. Saw my phone and there were two smses from him and straight away I apologized and hurried over. As I was changing, I received an sms from Adrian.

"Eh..chien's birthday comin ler...wanna make a surprise party for her ar?At the same time we can gather all our a levels and sam ppl.."

Very good! All this the day BEFORE her birthday. Nuts. So i thought for awhile.. maybe it might not be too bad an idea.

Drove over to Chee kiang's place. Had abit of a trouble finding his place as most of the time it was my mum who drove me over. But nevertheless found it and we ended up in Taipan Ravi's! Fantastic parking space right in front of the shop..it being a monday somemore.

We stayed long enough but not very long as he had a dental appointment in Bangsar at 12. Hahaha.. so after that, he gave my driving an 8/10! lol! Now, now people, I still get heart attacks when I switch lanes. Phobia. And forks. I hate forks.

After dropping him off, I went home before contemplating on giving Chien's mum to check if her place is ideal for the idea. So I did. I smsed her mum and said, "Hi aunty! Is Su-Chien with you?" Better to keep my sms short and sweet and if Su-Chien is the one who reads it, it doesn't mean anything, right? Very clever ya! So I replied,
"Ok aunty, listen, adrian and I are planning for her a surprise Party. is it ok to be at your house from before 7?" ...

The next reply came.

"Sorry, Jolene. Chien was reading the message ...I thought it was for her."

Argh argh shit shit!!

So Chien smsed me and said, "Thank you Jo and Adrian for your kind thoughts. I'm so happy to have friends like you all. Forgive my mother.. "

I then replied, "HAIYA.. what to do... cancel lar. HAIH.. HAIH..anyway, hApPy biRthDay in AdVanCE.."

But I didn't care. Nothing's going to stand in my way once I have made my mind up! Muah-hahahahaha. So I called the mum and said, "Aunty, is chien with you?" .. She said, "Yes, she's still with me." Chien was laughing in the background.

I then waited for a couple of hours before calling her mum. This time I used my brother's( ah, mervyn.. sorry ya! u were sleeping.) phone. This way she would not be suspicious towards me.

The mother picked up the phone and I said, "okay, aunty, this is Jolene. please don't say anything..but we're still going on with the idea even though she thinks it's cancelled. muahahahha."

and then Aunty said, "Ah ok Kelly!"

LOL.. then I was laughing and I told her the plan .. and then half way through, her mum said, "ic ic.. so what're the interest rates??" lol..DAMN FUNNY!!

Now that the venue and timing has been confirmed, it was time to let the rest in on the plan. Of course we only involved those who're damn free aka a levels' people since we're on holiday.

So happen the plumber arrived and I had to stay back, therefore I could not go out for a planned movie trip. =D My phone went on a mad calling spree.. numerous times to Adrian to let him in on the latest. (He was stoning on the other end..playing CS it seemed). He called the guys and I called the girls.

The plan was to go for the pampering session that Su-Chien BADLY wanted us to go at her house. SHe's been going on about this for ages. So. fine, we could manipulate this event. Hehehe. I gave her an sms telling her that my dad wants me to get him a book from MPH and I asked if she could accompany.. about 5pm.And she said, "sure! no problem!" Hehehe YAY! And by 7pm, I would return her back to her home, and she would go to her room(on her own account.. no pressure from me)... and then, "SURPRISE!!!".. :D :D :D :D  Sounds like a plan to me!!

For the rest of the day I kept repeating to the people involved,
-Don't park ANYWHERE near her house
-HIDE your shoes.
-It's a potluck! Bring something!
-BEFORE 7pm. BE in her room!

Phew. Tough.

Woke up the next day and Esther came over to make the sandwiches. We then went over to Chien's place while singing to the Moffatts in the car. (Theme song for Jolene's Drivings). Picked Su-Hsien up and proceeded over to Chien's.

She then gave us this really really good facial... it was so professional!
Don't believe? I'll show you!

LOL!! I've got another horrible one.. Just my face. Which I'll never show you ..EVER. Never. never. ..

... but I am Jolene.
Ah what the heck.

.. lol that's all you're getting!! GRR!!!!!

LOL during the facial.. Chien ran a wet cotton wool across my lips and it stained slightly pink. Then she was like, "HOR! so hiau!! wear lipstick..!!" I was  very sure I didn't. I told her, "maybe it was from the Sunday's night out..ahahahaha.." But cannot be. So I told her.. "maybe spaggheti sauce..!"(She threw her head back in disgust and stared at the ceiling..)..lol....She thought I cared so much about my appearences(lipstick and all.. humbug!)... but in fact, she didn't know i cared SO MUCH LESS. LOL..... damn farnee.

After that, we dropped Hsien off for her "violin class" and proceeded to Parade to "get my father's books" and esther's "father's pants."..So we went to Reader's corner first and spent 20 minutes there. Esther and I killed time by reading alot of Archie Comics. After that, we went to kill somemore time at MPH. Someone up there must have liked me too.. because so happen my stomach started to rumble and I hurried to Guardian to purchase RM1 worth of tissue(no other price-not that I needed that many, mind you)..and spent another good 10-15 minutes away from the girls. Went back to MPH soon after to look at the other chick lits. Spent another half an hour there. :) hehehe. By then, it was about 6.30pm. Told Chien that Esther and I would like to treat her to some Baskin Robbins. We had our ice cream and nearly died of cold. NEVER ever eat baskin robbins without a jacket on. Or rather, never eat at air-conditioned outlets. .. By the time we were done with the ice cream, it was only 6.50pm.. we need to leave at exactly after 7! So I told Chien that I needed to go to Reader's Corner to buy this month's CLEO. She found that abit peculiar. So I walked off with Esther. "You really buying ar Jo?" then I told Esther, "No.  Just go back and tell her don't have la!"

I went in to Reader's Corner and there was a HUGE STACK of CLEO. WAHhhhHHh..my poor RM5.60.. so  Esther said she'll get it la since she wants to buy it anyway. I wasn't planning on buying coz it's so late into the month and I buy it mainly for competition purposes.

Hehehe.. alls well. Called Hsien from Reader's corner to check if everyone's there. Told her we'll be coming home soon. So she gathered everyone into Chien's room and we proceeded to leave.

The ride home was a rather tricky one. It was difficult to tell Chien that we wanted to come into her house. What reasons to give?!
The initial plan was that Esther had to "leave" her plastic bag behind and we had to "oh shit, left it at ur house la.."... but silly Su-Chien took the bag down for esther before we left for Parade. Now, if only the person we were surprising was Abby. That would've been much easier. ;) ;)

So fine.. I parked my car in her house(quite simply)...because we were 'going out soon for dinner at Pizza italia'... and then I was so clever. I had to "drink some water".. :D Esther said that she had some bags upstairs ....:) So we lepaked for awhile downstairs..and when Su-Chien proceeded to go up to her room..we followed suit..

She opened her door. Total darkness. In a split second, we heard this really loud united, "SURRRPRISE!!!" ... and the light was switched on revealing a crowd of 20 of our good friends!! It was SUCH an amazing sight to behold. 20 people crammed into a bedroom! LoL! I never! Chien started to sob abit!! LOL LOL LOL.. and we were cheering and snapping pics.

chien's crying!!

I'm so happy everyone turned up!

LOL..it was so great. So many of the SAM people had exams next week and they could still make it. Min Dee who sneaked out of her hotel in INTEC drove all the way back from Shah Alam to join the happy occasion. People like Yijin not bathing but joining us anyway. *sigh!!*

This is one of the most complete gathering we've had so far. The entire gang was here. The entire girl gang. That's more important! The entire 10 of us! .. I invited Li peng though..but she couldn't make it.;(

Her mum actually put out a table for us in the tv room!! Along with a vase and some flowers.

l-r: KayHong, Yijin, Adrian, Kevin and Barry(that's old! new pose next time!)

another pose!

l-r: mindee, mel and me!

There was a funny moment in the tv room. Min Dee was telling us how ugly someone's girlfriend is. And this someone likes to criticise other people's  looks...so having a below average girl .. would not sound so right eh? She was like, "i can't believe he's with her!" and she was looking at me and she said, "My, she's even fatter than you!" .. I was taken aback..hahaha.. and still could muster a bitchy face..*jaws slacking*. LOL..everyone around me scolded Min Dee..ahahahhaa.. HIPPOPOTAMUS... gemuk gedempal..gemuk gemuk gemuk...lol.. so I decided to make  MinDee feel REALLLLLYYYYY bad. I was like, "mindee, can u please pass me my drink? I'm TOO FAT to move there."..  or if she asks me a question, i'll be like, "I DOn't know la. I'm just too fat!" ... hahahah Min Dee being Min Dee was putting both her hands out and kneeling in front of me and apologizing. GRrrrrRR.

we set a table outside the tv room

Getting ready to sing the Happy Birthday song!! We then made E-guy sing a solo for Su-Chien.ahahahahahhaha.. It was Su-Chien's request though!! lol!!

The birthday girl! Happy birthday to you...... happy birthday to you... happy birthday to you...........

Su-Hsien baked this cake all by herself. Amazing stuff huh?

Candles arranged:)

LoL! Chien's too scared to pick the candle out of the cake..for fear someone(like Barry) will dunk her head in.

ehhehe. She dared at last. Her nose had abit of chocolate though!! ew!!

The lot of us! The three main actors in this "plan" sat in front with the star tonight.;)

I'm not going to name them.. too tedious. But these faces have appeared on my blog more than a million times..so.. :D feel free to look in the archives.

This is just another pic for those of you who think you might look better here.:D hahaha

As usual.. Zhuo Yan and I

Perpetual Eyeshadow

I woke up at 12pm before falling asleep again at 2pm and proceeded to wake up at 4pm to help my mum hang some clothes before retiring back to my bed to catch 2 episodes of Greed Mask. I'm SO happening. Nobody can blame me since I'm having holidays! Woohoo!

Since Chee Kiang is back from Singapore for four days, a few of us decided to go have dinner. Dinner was at Pyramid's Monte's Restaurant and Bar. Daryl fetched us there.. I was supposed to let chee kiang test my driving and I'm not allowed to drive at night and he lost his confidence to drive around since he's been in Singapore for quite a while now. He was like a foreigner when he came back. ("Wow! So much changes!"-referring to the road works at Jalan Tujuan/Subang Utama)

It was about six of us.. Gaya, Daryl, Chee Kiang, Me, Eu-Foh and Justin who joined us after he was done working at Manhattan Fish Market. =) Poor Li Peng couldn't join us. And it's all Eu-Foh's fault! Though it was only a few of us, but lol, we SO enjoyed ourselves gossiping our heads off!

We learnt that someone's alternating between boyfriends, someone farted on someone's face on purpose back in 2003, a sad ending to a complex relationship, a predicted ending to a long term relationship, someone planned to run away from home-which was pretty hilarious, someone freaking out about someone's girlfriend because people said she was annoying, someone having scary eyelined eyes, finding out that Vinod(the guy who was involved in my "accident") once dissed Gaya by saying, "I could swim in her makeup!" So rude right?, someone looking like a ghost, someone smoking like a chimney, someone having the time of his life being a mat romeo..etc:)

We were practically the only people around except for another table occupied by a couple. It was a late Sunday night.. and I AM on holiday:). Nothing's nicer than that.

top left clock wise direction: Gaya, Me, Eu-Foh, Chee Kiang and Daryl. Justin hasn't finished working yet.

Another one.

Gaya and me! :D

Chee kiang and me! :D

When Justin joined us, we adjourned to Syed in 19 for more gossiping. Received many a weird stares from the people there for not being in a big t-shirt and shorts. After that Justin sent me home and he explained to me about his car modifying hobby/habit:) His money goes to spending on love interests. It's true. Started since a young age.

Wish I Was There

After many, many plays that I've intended to watch, Wish I Was There managed to intrigue me enough to actually go all the way to Bangsar to watch it. I planned to go with my family to watch it but since they were taking too long to decide if they wanted to go, I decided to call Melissa(who's a real Play-buff.(er, similiar to movie-buff?:P) to see if she wanted to watch it with me! Turns out she was as enthusiastic about the play as I was!

Mum drove me to her place and her dad drove us to Bangsar Shopping Complex. While waiting for the show to start, there was a flea market going on and basically we spent most of our time browsing around and enjoying each other's company.(we have not hung out together in a LONG time.)

Being students, we managed to purchase the ticket for only RM17.The studio/auditorium was smaller than an average cinema but at least it served its purpose as the view was better and the voices were clearer. :) Excuse me, I've never been to The Actor's Studio before.

Warning, spoilers ahead if you're planning to watch the play! But tomorrow's the last day anyway.

I Won't highlight the words from here on.

The setting was so minimal and beautiful.:) The set only consisted of two colours. White everything and a soft blue light cast upon the stage. Pretty much how I expected it to be. Which is good. :) The picture didn't really capture the full effect of the blue light. It filled up more of the stage actually.

The play started off with Patrick Teoh in an uncle-ish get-up.(out of shape collared shirt, beige pants with a belt and a plastic bag of orange). He sat on a white stool and started to have conversations with no one in particular. Things about what he did, and what he does now and how he feels about it. He was eating an orange as he was saying all that. Patrick plays an old man who died due to old age and is in much suffering. The character reminisce about how he usually eats his breakfast, and now he has to drink it with a straw. After a little bit more of solemn takes on his life, he took out an orange and sniffed it a little and set it upon the stool.

He then walks back to one of those square frames and disappears behind the curtains. In comes Chew Kin Wah who plays his son, David and Maya Abdullah who plays Doreen, his daughter. It seemed as if David was the more loving child compared to his sister. The sister could hardly care if the father was revived or not. Chew Kin Wah's David was pretty agressive in nature but he seemed to genuinely care about his father and misses him quite a bit. It featured quite a lot of raised voice. I still think Chew Kin Wah is a great actor:)

Soon after, Gavin who plays the young man who died is seated next to Patrick Teoh on the white bench in the centre of the stage. Gavin was dressed in a long sleeved shirt and tie and a pair of formal looking pants. Very yuppie and yummy! They are here because the both of them have many unresolved problems about their life. The two of them sat silently on the bench away from each other. Then Patrick(who was decked out in a hospital gown..he died in the hospital right?) tried to say Hi to Gavin, who did not reply but continued to stare out into the distance. Patrick then pokes Gavin softly and Gavin shouts in shock and Patrick shouts in shock too, shocking everybody in the crowd. LOL.

Patrick asks him questions as to why is here, have they died, more and more questions and sounds every bit the typical annoying old man who thinks he should be respected just because he is older. Whereelse Gavin was like a sullen teenager, unwilling to answer to any of his questions. This resulted in them having a huge row. Now, this was done in such a realistic manner. Perhaps it was due to the fact that it was live. I don't often witness shouting matches and would cower in fear/embarassment if I come across any. So it gave me that "uh-oh" feeling. Similiar to life-like situations.

As they were fighting, a woman(Samantha Schubert) who was in a glittery gold blazer and matching pants strutted in and propped herself up on a table. She downed a few 'tequillas', leaving the guys puzzled as there weren't any in sight. She was apparently God and obviously Patrick and Gavin did not believe her and started to laugh at her. Then they fired her with questions such as birthday, favourite colour, favourite book and finally accepted that she is, indeed God. She explains to them that they are put together to help each other out to solve their unresolved problems in life. And she teaches Patrick to drink the 'tequillas' as 'it is all in the mind now'.

This only leaves Gavin and Patrick feeling worse and more agitated. The both of them then calmed down and we find out that Gavin didn't die of a car accident as he said earlier, but because he killed himself. Patrick's worst fear about death is facing his wife(who died ages ago) as she would ask him about her children. He was scared because he's not able to tell her that they're fine. He made a mess with his relationship with them. And that was his problem and he has to face that.

The scene then shows us David talking to Doreen about how he should've been closer to their father. He understands how his father feels now as he himself has a son who's abit of a rebel too. However, Doreen doesn't seem to be affected by Patrick's death at all. Patrick's drops in on David's dream and wants to be close to Patrick. David seems to be cold to his father and he said that there was no way they could be close now. He deemed his father unreal. Nothing can be changed. He also said that he is numb towards his father and that not even his father can take that feeling away from him. Dejected, Patrick enters Doreen's dream. Doreen saw him and asked him if he wanted tea, coffee or anything and he said no, but she kept standing up to go make him some, he then loses his temper and shouts at her. Leaving her staring at him, expressionless.

He then sits her down and asks her if she remembers the time his mother met an old boyfriend for tea and how he beat her(Doreen) up when he found out that they kept it from him. Apparently he beat her up so bad that she was limping by the end of it. He felt so bad and called her over to apologize. She said, "It's alright. I deserved it..". Patrick then told her(in recent time), that, that night, he cried so much. He wanted his daughter to know that he cares for her but doesn't know how.
The sad part was when he was leaving and she said, "I never liked you, dad." and he was very quiet and he sighed, and said, "it's alright. I never liked me anyway.". After that, Doreen wakes up and she hugs David.

After that, it was time to solve Gavin's problem. His problem was because of his girlfriend. This character is played by Carmen Soo. His girlfriend was supposedly abit older than him. And that they've been living for two years now. One day she told him that she's been thinking about setting up a family, settling down. He told her straight that he never wants to get married, and never wants children, ever. He quickly told her that he loved her very much. But it was no use. She left. Soon after, he heard that she was getting married. Very very upset, he decided to take his own life.

We then have Carmen Soo in a blazer suit with a pair of strict looking glasses and her hair up in a firm bun. She is sipping wine while staring at a picture of Gavin. She reminisce about how they first met, how comfortable she feels with him. She said that lately, she sees him almost everywhere. But she knows it's not real. She gets all these heartbreaking lines and as she recites it, Gavin nuzzles her hair and puts a hand to her cheek, very perfume model like. Very sexy. And sad. She then proceeds to take off her blazer, releaving a tailored shirt. She removes her skirt and reveals a petticoat. She then unbuttons her tailored shirt and reveals a silk nighty. She removes her glasses and sets it upon the table. Mind you, she's still going on with her lines about how she misses him so and how she's not planning on getting married. Ever. She then removes the chopstick in her hair and her long hair tumbles down..and WHOA. Total transformation:)

Gavin can now go in peace because he understands it all now. God makes another reappearence. This time, she offers Gavin a smoke. Gavin says, "God smokes!?" and she sniffed and say, "What, you think I'm gonna let you people do it and not have some myself?". He sends Gavin off to a corner to concentrate on the 'ciggarette'(it's all in the mind, remember?) THis part gave me a good chance to oggle Gavin abit more. Such a pretty boy! God proceeds to talk to Patrick about his problems. Mostly about his wife.

God leaves and the two men sits back on the chair. They thanked each other solemnly and they now know that they are able to proceed to the next stage. Gavin invites Patrick to come along with him. Patrick said, "no, I'll stay here for awhile more..".. Gavin, being inquisitive, enquires, "why?" Patrick smiles and say, "oh, no, I'm waiting for someone." Gavin asks again, "really? Who?" Patrick smiles sheepishly and says, "My wife. She knows I can never get anywhere alone." Gavin understands perfectly but we know he is sad too because he never experienced more of life and it was clear that Patrick did not want to make Gavin sad.

The lights darkens to nothingness and the studio is bright again when the entire cast came out to take a bow:)

Great play. Good flow of tears from me, melissa and a bit of the audience.

It was so hyped up by the media, but sadly it was not a full house.

After that,we took their autographs. Chew Kin Wah remembers me!! hahaha. He told patrick, "Careful ar, this girl watches tv." Erm..k..?
I felt like kicking myself in the ass for forgetting to take pictures!!! We got everyone's autograph except Maya Abdullah's.

Hi, my name is Jolene and if there is a question in your head, this answer will definitely answer it: I was wrong and irrational. I was being a woman.

Jolene Lai, Jolene Lai,
Came to life in January and not July,
She is 19 years of age,
Can't wait to earn her own wage,
This dental student is home sick,
Will never be in Kedah for more than three weeks.

Subang Jaya is where she's from,
The only place she'll ever call home.
Has a boyfriend, a brother and a dog,
The things she says can give you a shock.

Especially for her father, who always gets a heart attack when he reads this blog.

Hey, rhymes!
