Bloggers Beware? Don't Worry, Dad.

I don't suppose I need to brief the lot of you about today's headlines in the Star.

See, if most of you have read my blog long enough for say a minimum of two years, you'd have an idea that my father is extremely concerned about me and my blog. He usually takes the papers to work. But he asked me to buy another copy so that I could read the article as soon as possible. As far as I am concerned, my blog is anything but a threat to the government.

I remember the very first thing he scolded me about was putting my handphone number up. That was when my only readers were Esther, Barry, Ken, Elizabeth and Melody wayyy back in early 2004.

Then came the scoldings about my cursings and if you've noticed, there are hardly any profanities in my blog these days. I'd say at least ONE in five posts. And no, bitch is a normal word. Not a swear word in my vocab.

Then came the scoldings about me revealing things like me kissing in an elevator and... what else was there.. basically about me revealing almost everything about myself on this blog. Though I've toned quite a bit in recent times. I used to have to blog about every single thing I do. Now a days, I just don't find the energy to do that.

Actually I didn't mention this before but the reason he freaked out and was further fueled by that SPG case back in June 12 was because the blog meet I went to consisted of people who would never be friends with me if it wasn't for blogs. When I first started out, the bloggers I befriended were more likely to be peers of my parents than be my peers in real life.

I mentioned something about some of the heavyweight bloggers at the meet getting a visit from the police to "talk things over"... and he was shit worried.

So, there. I didn't want to mention names back then and that the things they were involved in were the reason my dad was freaking out because the meet was still fresh and stuff so I left this bit out in hopes of avoiding any tension.

Now, he's cool about me going for blog meets provided that I have friends whom I already know present at the meet. What he is worried about now is that the bloggers I meet up with are involved in all these spreading of 'dangerous information' and that I might be dragged into it if it was discovered that we "move in the same circles".

But after awhile, you kind of drift away from trying to fit in and find your own standing.

The bloggers I meet up with are all a bunch of camwhores. :D It's the older generation and the more outspoken one among us who are more into the whole government-socio-political-bla-bla-bla. They'd never come out to meet us crazy camera weilding kids. We'd bore each other to death.

Me:"Come take picture!"
Older, serious blogger: "mmm..." *continues flipping newspaper*

See? It just DOESN'T work that way. You can read Giant Sotong's extremely brilliant observation about the Generation-Y's Blog Meet".

You know what makes my idea of a blogging community? Different personalities leading different lives telling different stories and painting different pictures for us to see. In a way, we get to live all kinds of life through one single medium. At least for me, that's the whole blogosphere concept is about. Not clones ranting about the same issue.

Our prime minister is more concerned about those who blog about things regarding the government. I admit, maybe my national service entries would have been of that sort and my father made me take it down(all 40 entries..arghh) and I was planning to edit it and load it up again sometime in the future. But I think better not.

I blog to make friends. I blog to be part of communities. I blog to keep in touch. I blog to make others smile. I blog to make myself smile.

I wouldn't call my blog a personal blog but it is still very much about me. Personal stuff, love life and such..well, we all have secret blogs for that, don't we? ;)

I love the other bloggers who are of my generation and we are selfish in the sense that we just close one eye to the latest sensational news and keep blogging about how absolutely adorable our latest manicure was or how great that new fine dining place is. We blog about what we love. We are materialistic like that.

We get together because we know about each other's lives through our blogs and it's like we've been friends for ages because that's the purpose of our blogs. To form a community.

The government is worried about bloggers who hype up the already sensational news to the point of exaggeration. But we all know who those 'bloggers' are, if you want to call them that. I call them people who got nothing to blog about.

They are the cut and paste bloggers who polute our once close-knitted community.

Remember the whole miri school girl fight going around? Pffft. So what.
Remember the UPM fight? It WAS scary to look at.. but not all bloggers want to ruin the rhythm of their blog with some overkilled 'biG NeWs'. I mean, it's everywhere. It's practically everywhere to the point that it was boring.

Maybe some do blog about these issues because they are concerned. But I have a feeling a good number are doing this for traffic.

Oklah, different people have different perspectives on things. You know the old old oldddd saying(which Xiaxue has chanted once too many), "this is my blog and I blog what I want". No problem! You go on talking about boring government things and I will continue camwhoring with my alarm clock.

I do agree that blogs are never meant for spreading malicious information. But I hope the bloggers I've befriended along the way know how to jaga their own asses lah. If the government wants to monitor the blogs more, what can we do?

Just watch what you write, no big deal. We have to be responsible in that sense. You can't just go directing your anger and discontentment at bigger powers(or even innocent people like you and me) and then say, "this is my blog, I can blog what i want."

Well, the only way for you to blog about what you want is to use password protected blogs. But you still itchy backside! Still want readers! What to do you tell me?

Heck, I don't even bitch about the people around me no more these days on my blog. (Once again, password protected private blogs rock my socks.)

So, my friends, we keep up our eat-shit-sleep blogging style and we're good to go. You don't need to rant like the world owes you everything to get a bigger readership. You don't need to talk about sensational news to get a bigger readership. You don't need to expose your body to get a bigger readership.

But all that lies in what the individual wants at the end of the day.

I'm for the eat-shit-sleeping-in-style type of blogs.(these type of blogs can either be very boring or VERY funny) :) Who's with me?

Oh well, a hug to all my friends who blog and all the bloggers who are my friends.. take care and beware.

Han Yijin The Blogger

You know how it is when one of your friends start up a blog. It's always the ones we least suspected. Oh how I giggled when I found out about it.

My dear friend of 9 years, Han Yijin, has started a blog aptly titled, "One Man's Tragedy Is Another Man's Comedy". It chronicles all the silly stories that one would usually share over a teh tarik or two at your favourite mamak stall till the wee hours of the night.

He is one of those fellows who has the funniest stories spun from all the mishaps that he has experienced. The funniest people are those who can laugh at themselves.

It's even more interesting that he is a trainee pilot for MAS and he blogs about his funny flying experiences. He mentioned in one of his posts that he got lost while flying to Johor.

See his cute face, don't tell me you don't want to read his blog?

I'm in the midst of teaching him how to camwhore properly so you'll see more of his handsome mug splashed all over his spankin' new blog.

At only four posts(and growing), he shows signs of a promising story teller.

The gang has been teasing him about getting his blog "out there!". Picking fights with the famous bloggers(there were talks about insulting Kenny Sia's bulu) and then getting famous in the process.. but he is going to do it the honest way. Just tell all his silly stories that has tickled us for years on end in hopes that he will gain a healthy amount of readers as well.

SO GO SHOW HIM SOME LOVE!! SUPPORT SUPPORT!!

The First Day Of Seven Years

It's official. He has left.

I've cried enough already a couple of months ago when I first learnt that he got the NTU scholarship(which morphed into an offer to study at NUS. which morphed again into an ASEAN scholarship for pharmacy at NUS). It's not that I'm not proud of him that he got the scholarship, it's the whole leaving Malaysia that I can't quite deal with.

But we both know that I get over sad things very fast.

It won't be very different from how things already were. Subang Jaya is now the midpoint between the 5 hours journey up north to Kedah and the 5 hours journey down south to Singapore.

But still.

Something is different.

I feel empty in a way.

Taken on the way to Subang Parade. My uber urbanized hometown.

Chee Kiang had a mini gathering cum farewell at his place. His farewell at Hilton PJ back in 2004 when he left for his asean a levels seems like it was just yesterday.

Just some pizza, shi sha, chips and some bailey-coke to go around and we were contented. :) Actually they were contented. I was just contented being in my usual trigger happy weirdo mode.

Joshua getting fed with some bailey+coke+icecream.

Some nachos for my boy.

Daryl is so cool he even has his own Shi Sha thingamajig. I was introduced to the shi-sha concept back in form3 by Daryl and Justin. LOL. So funny, they were regulars at the Al Sindbad(or something like that) at Sunway Pyramid back in 2001. And there were signboards all tover he place saying something like: Kanak-kanak di bawah 18 tahun dilarang meng-shi-sha.

I remember our little experiment by filling up some empty mineral bottles with the shi-sha smoke.

Jon and his pizza.

l-r: Ck and Josh

Justin has got a nice complexion.

<3

<3 <3

It sure was good pizza.

Camwhoring with the shi sha thingamajig.

Gaya trying her best to eat the pizza daintily.

LOL this picture is cute.

l-r: daryl, Joshua, Nadine

Gaya was about to mix some drinks for us.

Chee Kiang got a nice shirt from Nadine..

here's Joshua and Justin trying to put more charcoal on the shi-sha.

A shot of the rest of the garden from where we were seating.

Cheers! Now, when was the last time you just chilled out on the grass of someone's garden?

gaya and I

Awwwww... I got a bailey-icecream-coke moustache.

Camwhoring with a moustache is addictive.

It was suggested that I get a photo with the moustache and the shirt I was wearing must be caught on camera as well. I don't know what Chee Kiang was doing...

I know it LOOKS like he was touching.... camera angle I'm telling yea. This is my favourite t-shirt:D

oh look! Pisces! :D If you can think of another name for this pose, let me know. I've got an idea.............well..eh..ehe.... erm....*blush*

:)

A view of my boyfriend from where I was.

Lying down and taking more photos of everyone.

Daryl and Gaya

Nadine. (I'm still lying on Chee Kiang's laps)

l-r: JD, Jon, Nadine and Shi Sha.

Some of the photos that Chee Kiang developed to bring over to Singapore.

Group shot!

Another one from a distance.

Chee Kiang camwhoring with Nadine. See, I trained him well:)

Daryl was getting warm.. LOL 4 years back, when Chee Kiang celebrated his 16th birthday at his house, Daryl was naked as well. At that time he was drunk.. and ohmigod the stories were so hilarious. Hahahaha. He puked on Chee Kiang's floor and CHee Kiang had to clean it up. Dancing dance dance revolution without the mat... slapping Gaya's ass... and just because someone shouted "Senegal won!!" somewhere down the street as it was the World Cup season back in 2002.. he also go and shout "YES SENEGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" even though there wasn't any tv in front of him.

I remember he pointed at Justin(who was sitting still) and said, "EH! Why you moving??? Don't move!! Don't move!!!!"

LOL LOL.

Daryl the Caesar

Oh look! A photo of them back in form5.
L-r: Chee Kiang, Justin, A bit of Gaya, Daryl, Eu Foh and Barry

Justin smsing his Ada who is all the way in perth. Poor Justin. :(

Pizza wasn't sufficient, so Joshua went out to buy some burgers back.

Joshua trying his very best to fit the entire burger into his mouth.

And the night wind was blowing, indicating a downpour very soon.

Before Chee Kiang fetched me home, Daryl was posing around Chee Kiang's family cars.

Here I am camwhoring with my 'letter J' necklace that Chee Kiang got for me. I like it alot!!! Plus the entire thing is made of individual diamentes.

Oh you think I was only going to stop at just ONE photo?

The last one.

Well, if most of you don't already know, I'll be home for 5 weeks.

But I'm going back to Kedah during the weekend of the fourth week to resit my biochemistry paper which I failed (I cried like fuck already so no wise cracks from all of you about my camwhoring activities).

However, I'm quite happy that my weekends will be packed to the brim!

1st weekend in Singapore, 2nd weekend in Redang, 3rd weekend in Malacca, 4th weekend back to Kedah for the resit and the 5th and last weekend PORT DICKSON!!!

WOOT!!

I'll go study now. I good girl!!

Hi, my name is Jolene and if there is a question in your head, this answer will definitely answer it: I was wrong and irrational. I was being a woman.

Jolene Lai, Jolene Lai,
Came to life in January and not July,
She is 19 years of age,
Can't wait to earn her own wage,
This dental student is home sick,
Will never be in Kedah for more than three weeks.

Subang Jaya is where she's from,
The only place she'll ever call home.
Has a boyfriend, a brother and a dog,
The things she says can give you a shock.

Especially for her father, who always gets a heart attack when he reads this blog.

Hey, rhymes!
