NoOOOOooOOOOoooOOOOOOoo...

Look what I found in the papers today?

85,000 picked to undergo NS

BY LAM LI
KUALA LUMPUR: A new batch of 85,000 youths born in 1987 have been selected for next year’s national service (NS) programme.

The list of those randomly selected through computerised balloting can be accessed at several government agencies’ websites and through the NS Training Department hotlines and short messaging service.

Those who wish to check can do so from Saturday. (See chart).

The names and identity card numbers of those selected will also be published in major dailies in the middle of next month.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is also Defence Minister and chairman of the Cabinet Committee on NS, said those enlisted should feel fortunate to be picked from a pool of 471,376 individuals.

“The Government is convinced that the programme has a positive impact on nation building and should continue.

“No other programme can draw such a mass involvement of youths to bring about significant changes to the country,” he said when launching the computer balloting yesterday.

At a press conference later, Najib said the Government had learnt from glitches and unexpected problems during the inaugural programme and promised the training would be of better quality next year.

“We will be better prepared in terms of administration, implementation, selection of trainers, camp facilities and the overall quality of training modules,” he said, adding that trainees would undergo the three-month training at 71 camps nationwide in stages.

The first intake of 28,330 trainees will undergo training from Dec 13 until March 6.

The second batch of 28,334 trainees will go through the programme from March 14 to June 3 while the last batch of 28,334 will train from July 10 to Sept 30.

Of the 85,000 youths, 60% will be bumiputras, 28% Chinese, 10% Indians and the remaining two per cent will be from other races.

Male trainees will make up 51% of those selected.

Najib said failure to report for training was an offence under the law.

NS shirkers will face a maximum jail term of half a year or a maximum fine of RM3,000 or both and they can be charged repeatedly until they undergo the training.

Asked what action had been taken against about 4,000 shirkers of the inaugural training, Najib said the case was now in the hands of the police.

“The shirkers will definitely face the music. We will not extend another last chance offer to them,” he said.
.................................................................................................................
I wouldn't mind though, as I might be getting a one year before university.  But, still! What a big thing!!!.. Will blog later about the depressing chem paper in all-out drama.

Salty Sour Chocolate Cake

I have come to a point in my life whereby I've finally reached a mutual understanding with a mamak.

Everybody who knows me knows that I avoid anything spicy like the plague(it was so embarassing when we ordered dinner dishes in Langkawi they had to order the non-spicy stuff because "jolene cannot eat wan"). Though, I love their maggi goreng so much! I acquired a taste for mamak maggi goreng in Nawaz SS14.. I've yet to be satisfied with any other variation since.

But today, today is special. Today is Mamak Understands Jolene Day. Everybody gets a holiday. *pee* (blows whistle).

I usually request for "maggi goreng, tak mau lada, tak mau cili, tak mau pedas."(malay2english: fried maggi, don't want pepper, don't want chilli, don't want it to be spicy.).. And by the end of the sentence, the mamak's pupils will dilate and he'll scrunch his eyebrows up and walks back into the kitchen as I shout after him, "TAK MAU LADA, TAK MAU CILI, TAK MAU PEDAS YA!!"..

Oh! But today, I only had to repeat myself ONCE!

Jia Lin was served my plate by accident and she was staring at it and she and Li Shan were looking at it and saying "aiyer, why so white like no chilli like that wan?"..
Me, not quite realizing it's mine, didn't claim it immediately because it's very seldom I get what I order. Sometimes I don't even get anything at all.(Sucks to you TAJ Curry House... lazy slow pokes)..

Ah.. the first taste. I spread it evenly on my tongue to test for any tell-tale signs of chilli fibres... negative. Second bite, third scoop, fourth shovel... HEY! It's not spicy at all!! *chinks of teh ais glasses all around*

I wanted to give the mamak who took my order a 5 dollar tip. Then I remembered that I am a Malaysian(chinese) student and not some middle age european tourist. But the point is, they deserve the credit. Maybe next time I shall give them a dollar for their effort to wash their wok before cooking my maggi goreng. :) Yes, that'll be a good idea.

Oops.. did I not mention that it was at Sri Melur SS15 that I had my ideal maggi goreng?

However, nothing's perfect.

The volume of my maggi goreng is inequivalent to the volume of my stomach. Although there are elastic fibers and smooth muscles in the walls of my stomach to ease expansion if needed, but as it presses againt my diaphragm, it results in discomfort. Therefore, I need to puke.

Dinner yesterday at Holiday Villa was fairly well. Had a teeny weeny bit of hope that we'd be able to spot some Malaysian Idols(who're staying there till the shows over) who would come back from the result show. We had normal buffet with seafood..salmon, oysters, mushrooms, prawns, sushi... ah. Then there was something called Irish Stew. basically rubber in good sauce. Rubber that has an identity crisis. We deduced it to be lamb/sheep.

My mum saw a bowl of 'brown sugar' next to the fruits and she scooped two spoons of it and poured it into her tea. :D She was puzzled as to why the brown sugar didn't dissolve. She was even more shocked to see Dad(who is abit diabetic) having a moutain of 'brown sugar' on his fruit plate.

She had asam floating in her tea. That's why it didn't dissolve. -_-

That aside, after the meal, brother sloshed on a chocolate cake onto his main course plate. Then he laughed and mumbled something(as usual) and started to brush his fingers up and down his lips indicating stupidity. I didn't understand and then he said that he sloshed his cake onto the gravy from his main course. LOL. Then he brushes his fingers on his lips again. Stupid, indeed.

Surprisingly Dad contributed to my input that his chocolate cake looked like poo-poo. Dad called it Crappy Chocolate Cake.. haha..! Then it got me started.. I told my brother, "You know there's this website online......" and he was like, "shut up, sure something dirty wan.." .. hahahaha. He knows me too well.

But I continued anyway. There's this website online called Ratemypoo.com and you can submit your poo to see if it's cool or not. Hahaha..then I suggested to my brother that he could take a picture of his poo next time. THen he agreed and said maybe can put up on his blog. Then he said that he'll lose all his friends after that. LOL.

I'm currently in the college library and I feel VERY stiffled.. I can't clack away at the keyboard like I do at home for fear of appearing annoying:). But at least I found my 'flow' in a different environment. I tried www.blogspot.com.. and it being the Daddy of Blog-servers, is banned  by ICT. Muahahaha.  Blogdrive, not very famous, is not banned.:D

Well, the time is 2.35pm and I've got a dental appointment at 2.45pm. Cheerio!

Backseat Swearer

It's 2.30am now and I'm just done doing two chapters of chemistry! Fark the physics chapter I had planned to cover for the night.

The day started off relatively well with me waking up at quarter to nine to go for breakfast with my mum and dad! We went to the Pit Stop for some mamak and I nearly had a coronary when my mum said that that was brunch. Dad said to mum, "Mou hak ge fei por ar.." (don't scare the fat woman).. lol.

I had chicken rice for lunch.:D

I'm proud to say that I started studying early in the day and finished one of the longest chapter in biology.. :)

I planned to attempt some probability and statistics paper later on.. but at 2.30pm I received a cheerful phone call from Mel.

"Ei, Jo, wanna go yam cha with me and Eugin?"

I hesitated abit coz it's not always I get mood like this..as in to sit down and study study study..(don't misunderstand.. my degree of studying may be a far cry to your "reading through")

So I asked mum if it's alright for me to take the car out.. and Dad said, "CAN..as long as you don't give me another 500 dollar problem."

JOY~~~~!!~!!! I CAN OFFICIALLY DRIVE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *chinks Ribena glass*

So off I went to pick Meldee up and everytime I switched lanes my heart contracted like mad.. farkin adrenaline..I'm traumatised. Damn you,Vinod the Speeder. Made it back to 15 safe and sound. Mel went to return my Take My Word For It episodes to the TVB shop. Proud of my dear Mel, her first taste of Chinese show. Even though she was just holding the cds. But hey, it's a start,no?

Did a hero parking and proceeded into a scary looking Rafis. (reason being there were some weird guys with weird hair.. some security guards from Mel's college in tight tight uniforms..).. :D While waiting for Eugin, I took out my maths paper and poised my pen on my notepad. All that was written was "Maths Stats, Page 1. 21/8/2004. Number 1.".....then I folded the paper and put it back into my bag. T_T. I'm hopeless.

Melody confided to me that she has never seen Eugin in real life before. I nearly fell off the chair laughing. I mean she called me and said, "ei wanna go yam cha with me and Eugin?" Like damn friend like that right..lol..they're only great friends through the Internet. So cyber! lol. I mean the both of them are happily paired off with other people.. but it's like a friendship derived from the internet.. lol. and they sounded like they knew each other SO well. So when Eugin walked in, Mel decided to take a gamble and give the bespectabled (be?)spiked-hair guy a wave. HAHAHA..I hissed at Mel, "You silly woman! That's not Eugin..It's my friend, er, er, EUSAN!"..

What kind of a fucking name is Eusan? I'm so lame.

Hahaha...we sat down and talked about all the funniest incidents involving our mutual friends..lol. These topics could go on for hours. Marcus-related stories were a particular favourite with Eugin. We talked loads about the langkawi trip and how hilarious it was. Well, basically it was me telling the story. Wanna know more about the infamous Langkawi Post-SPM trip.. go here. He was kind enough to pay for our drinks and mee goreng:D

Went home to complete TWO maths papers. YAY!!! Jolene so clever girl oh!!

After dinner we popped over to my grandparents' place. My cousin kwan hoong and his family were there. hahaha. We had another good laugh at my stupidity. They were watching a video of my brother's one year old birthday party in the McDonald's in Section 14.

Last night, we were over at my grandparents' and they played the video of their wedding anniversary(held last June) for the millionth time .. I was no doubt, bored senseless. I can only take so much bad lighting and noise once.

My granddad complains that my grandma likes to replay the tape whenever she's free.

They also insist that their guests watch the video. So guess what my cousin and his family were subjected to? Another round of the video. It started off with me swimming in Redang with my Aunty, then preparation for the big day, the big day....And my grandfather was explaning to me what was happening..blablabla.. and I couldn't stand it and said, "Yeayea(cantonese for grandfather, not noises-of-sarcasm), remember? I watched it yesterday already! and four more times before that!!"

As we were leaving, Dad said that by now, the neighbours could probably recite the touching speech my Aunty gave simulataneously with the tape. Somemore they have it on really loud.

If I see the tape one more time, I will scream.

There was this funny random comment my dad made in the car..

"You know when I was 21, and working in Malacca.. one day I was back home and your grandfather threw a stack of porn pics from his collection at me in conjunction with my adulthood.. I looked at it and sniffed, "Tai jor loo."(seen already looo..)..."

Ahahahahahahahahahahaha. My grandfather is soooooo innocent.

Esther, I know how you feel. So many people asked me if I'm going for the Battle Of The Bands. .. no no no no no and no. I'm not a band person. I've had enough disastrous IUs and Installs(interact and Leo) to last me a lifetime. Countless stupid bands tuning their equally stupid guitars with those annoying amps.. and then they scream and prance and think they're God-sent. Like, no thank you, fuck off please.

I remember a particularly bad experience: LEO IU 2001.. chee kiang, remember, you were the assistant OC..and Audrey, you were the OC. Oh god, there was this stupid band that just didn't want to get off. Even though the organizers tried to get them off. You're not talented ok.. please go and sit on top of the flag pole in Dataran merdeka. Sure, it'll get you noticed, but you won't be around to experience the fame.

Two of my friends were particularly interested in this whole Battle Of The Bands thingie. Namely Adrian and Gan(Pek Li). I laughed when they told me it was boring.. and mumbly..Ahaahaha.
I laughed somemore when Gan told me that the Dance Club's proposed dance nite was cancelled. What are they gonna do with all the posters and publicity? How humiliating. I saw this coming miles away..that's why I was smart enough to quit the Dance Club as secretary.. the way the meetings were handled, like, Oh God.
Not to say I was any great input, but you get my picture.

Hi, my name is Jolene and if there is a question in your head, this answer will definitely answer it: I was wrong and irrational. I was being a woman.

Jolene Lai, Jolene Lai,
Came to life in January and not July,
She is 19 years of age,
Can't wait to earn her own wage,
This dental student is home sick,
Will never be in Kedah for more than three weeks.

Subang Jaya is where she's from,
The only place she'll ever call home.
Has a boyfriend, a brother and a dog,
The things she says can give you a shock.

Especially for her father, who always gets a heart attack when he reads this blog.

Hey, rhymes!
