Sometimes Shit Happens, But It's Alright!

Examinations can be the hardest period to go through for some and it's the plans after the exams that keeps you going. A thought that keeps you sane.

You know that silly smile on your face when your mind wanders away from your books and you start to imagine how you will go about doing the things you know you'll be doing after that? Those silly smiles were good.

I had plans to go to Malacca, Penang, KL, and Singapore. Even the PPS bash was one of the many things on my to-do-list. I was hoping to complete all of this before I head for National Service.

Malacca was supposed to be today and yesterday one of the girls messaged me on MSN, "Jo, I have something to tell you...you don't angry ar..."

I saw my friend throw my aeroplane out of the window. (fong fei kei)

"Erm...my parents are damn worried lar, what with the driving down and all..they sort of forgot about the safety part. My mom came into my room and said, "If anything happens, it's fated...."".

I told my friend, "I don't know what to say,".

I was so angry because I had purposely arranged Malacca to fall before my KL stayover, which would be before my Singapore trip so that I will go home in TIME for the PPS bash and then relax and get ready for national service.

Singapore is cancelled and we know there's no bash for me and most of all Malacca was the only extraordinary trip I'd be getting to do. My friend hyped it up for me for the past week or so and both of us got so incredibly excited about it but alas, the plug was pulled once more.

I don't blame her for not wanting to worry her parents because that is what she should do. But I could not help feeling angry at the cancellation of plans. If there is one thing that pisses me off besides people-who-know-me-but-don't-say-hi, it is the cancellation of plans.

But it's okay, I only needed time to cool down and just needed to feel that anger before the night was over.

However, at 11.45pm, draped in a towel after my bath, I opened the laptop and saw her online and said, "Okay, I'm done being pissed. Finished pissing," and hence we made up and made plans to go shopping the following day.

It's wise to never let a friendship go rocky for more than 24 hours. We will eventually forgive each other but we all need our space and time to get over it, even if we are overreacting.

As for Singapore, initially I wanted to go down during Chee Kiang's birthday and do a whole chinese show about it and surprise him at his hostel. I even went to the extend of co-ordinating the plans with his room mate whom I had to track down through Friendster. To spend his birthday with him trudging through Singapore happily before I rush back the following morning to Malaysia so that I'll be in time for the PPS bash.

Unfortunately, because Chien, Hsien and I cannot decide if we are ready to pay for a hotel on Orchard Road(as they want to shop during the Great Singapore Sale and will want to stay there for a couple of days) we decided to scrape it. Chien and Hsien's aunties are unable to put up with us because there is no space and I do not want to trouble my Aunty as her mother is recently bed ridden.

I had put quite alot of thought into it, looking up the bus schedules, checking out maps, co-ordinating my timing so I can attend the bash and etc. I suppose it's alright to say it now since I won't be able to do it then. Sigh. Sorry Chee Kiang.

And ta-dah! The PPS bash is no longer on my agenda.

Fortunately there is still KL to entertain me.

Perhaps it's the hormones, but I was so upset yesterday after my trip to the dentist as I thought about the things I wanted to do but would now have to scrape. I have only one month before national service and by the time I get back, everybody would have gone to further their studies. Speaking of National Service, the stupid government have yet to send me my official letter. Hello, I NEED to do my preparations!

However, Jolene seldom stays upset for long.

I've come to terms with the whole PPS bash thing as well. Since I won't be there in person to be interacting with my fellow bloggers, I'd want the lot of you to sign on my t-shirt. David of narrowband.blogspot.com has agreed to help me collect my t-shirt from the party. Heheh, thanks David. But please don't go destroying the t-shirt by circling the left side of the chest area of the t-shirt with some left boob-esque joke, eh? I still want to wear the shirt one you know!

I've made plans to go photograph the graffiti in SS15, oh, just for fun, since I have nothing to do. I was actually admiring them yesterday after my dental appointment while waiting for my brother to come out. I struck a pose like I was deep in thoughts at an art exhibition and nodded intellectually at the graffiti in the back alley amidst the many people who took that back alley shortcut.

Now that I'm so free, I can do stupid things like stick a sticky barcode above my lips Hitler style and wave at the other cars on the road.

I was doing this all the way from One-Utama until we reached Subang. Hohoho. The looks on the other drivers' faces. Priceless.

Hitler camwhoring.

For I Play The Filial Daughter

My dad saw me resizing and mosaic-ing some of the photos I took from the meet today. I did a very bad thing and told him I was meeting up with old friends. I should not have said that.

He didn't like the idea of me meeting up with people I met from the internet. For as long as I can remember, he has always been against the idea of blogging and he hates the fact that I reveal so much about myself.

He really lost it today when he found out that I attended a blogger's meet on my own. I understand no amount of explanation can undo his views on the dangers of meeting strangers off the internet.

He asked me if I read the papers today and if I knew what a girl called Sarong Party Girl did to herself. I told him that of course I knew and it has been circling around the internet. He said he would just DIE if he ever saw me doing such a thing to myself. He spat, "Look at her!! Telling the world about her sex life," .. to which I replied, "But I don't have a sex life." Reading that article threw him even further away from the idea of blogging. Many thanks to the clever media for highlighting such an issue. It has created such a situation for me. Thanks.

"I am worried that you will one day expose yourself like that as well. Who knows how daring you may get? I don't want this to happen to you. Do you really love attention that much?"

I hate to admit it. But yes, it's the attention. With 123 incoming links and an average of 350 unique hits a day, how can I not want more? This may not be the most popular blog around but I have nurtured it into something bigger than I've ever expected it to be.

I've made friends with a journalist from a leading publication and he kindly offered to interview me alongside other bloggers for a piece on blogging. He even asked if I am cool about having my photo in it.

You know what? Even though he probably asked me out of convenience sake, I AM elated. Ridicule me as much as you want, but since I know how far blogs can bring someone, I'd love to have a taste of that. But as they say the grass is always greener on the other side so I am sure this is just a passing phase. But I am not afraid to admit that yes, I would love to be famous.

However, my father is right and doing something that he doesn't think I should do is very unsettling. So what if I get what I want, being recognised, having my link passed around? It's all a temporary ego rush but what would really throw me off would be how I would have to tip toe around my own father when I go about blogging.

I have agreed to never attend any more blog gatherings. He says that the interview is good publicity but it all goes back to me revealing too much of myself.

He says that I am over friendly and I should learn to be more reserve. Well, there goes my promise to my journalist friend an interview with an identity. I'm sorry.

He is afraid of potential stalkers, crazy hackers and the likes. The probability is damn low but I understand there is a chance. I see where he is coming from. Am I just being rebellious by saying, "I KNOW. I KNOW how it is. I KNOW what to do,"?

My mother, frustrated, said, "DOn't make your daddy worry like that lah! Just stop blogging!!"

I CANNOT STOP BLOGGING.

It almost got to the point where I had to say, "Yes, I will stop blogging,". But I cannot.

Through tears I told them, "I don't defame anything, I don't talk bad about the people I know, I don't put myself in situations which will result in me getting sued,".

"Why do you think your blogger friends asked you to mosaic them out? It's because they know the danger that blogging can bring. One day when you are an important person, people can look you up and know about your past, and put it out to bring you down. THEN you will know," he rationalised.

Sobbing, I replied, "BUT I LOVE TO WRITE."

My dad soften his tone and said, "I love you, but you do what you want,I hope you know what you're doing,". His tone gave away an "I still don't think it's a good idea,".

Big fat tears still rolling down my cheeks, "That's reverse psychology. But I don't want to upset you either. I do and will write responsibly."

"As long as you write responsibly," he sighed, the sentence somewhat hanging.

"I do."

I've never cried so much since the days when he would give me an earful about racking up the internet bills back in the last millenium when we were still on dial-up.

The family and I drove in silence to The Curve and Dad said, "Change the topic okay? Forget about it, don't be sad," and he passed me a tissue.

Dad tried to cheer me up by asking me for directions to The Curve. It takes alot for a man to ask a lady for directions to somewhere.

I love my father and I don't want to do anything that will make him stay mad at me.
I am very grateful that he has not pried my fingers off my laptop and turned off the power button on my internet activities forever.

Hence, I will not attend any other blog gatherings. As much as I'd love to meet each and everyone of you, I just don't feel nice going against my dad. I will also have to turn down the interview. Meeting new people and getting my blog out there doesn't matter THAT much to me. If there are no consequences for me to face, of course I will be the first to arrive at gatherings and such. Please enjoy the PPS birthday bash for me.

The lot of you I met today, you guys were right to be shocked when you found out I was 18. I was abit indignant at first because I didn't want you guys to think that I'm too young. But it is the truth as I still have to listen to my father.

I will keep blogging and be watchful of my ways. You guys can help me by letting me know what is too much, okay?

Pre-PPS Bash Blog Meet At 10am.

After walking back to the car twice to see if I locked it, I finally made my way up to the food junction in Midvalley Megamall. I thought I was late since it was 15 minutes after 10am.

I saw Peter Tan  from a far waving at me. I made my way over and was introduced to another blogger who goes by the nick Bkworm.

It's strange, meeting these bloggers. Upon approaching the group you introduce yourself using your online identity. I'm known as Jayelle, obviously. It's weird!

But that's the beauty of blog meets. You put a face behind the blogs you read. Although there are some of us who don't read each others' blogs so we try to come up with small talk and make a mental note to go home to catch up on his/her blogs.

All in all it was a fun one, it being my very first blog meet.

Me and Bkworm.

l-r: Tangerine, Joanna(Bkworm's daughter). By the way, Tangerine says he's 21 years old this year!

l-r: Hunting The Snark, Tangerine

l-r: Mystiqangel, Peter Tan

The turnout was pretty good!

l-r:Pennypupz and me!

l-r: Yee Pei,Ireneq, Hunting The Snark

The very very famous Jeff Ooi. Him, Penny and I, being Subang people, bitched about the traffic back home.

l-r: Ireneq, Me, Tangerine

l-r: Peter, Hunting The Snark. Hunting The Snark was asked by Peter to come in his "full gear" ..hence, *gestures at photo*.

Teaching Peter the art of camwhoring!

top l-r: Me, Kelvin, Pennypupz
bottom l-r:Suanie, Peter.

l-r:Eyeris(see, I'm so nice!), Suanie,Alan Wong . Hehe, Eyeris, have to mosaic your shirt as well. Later people can recognise your shirt, how?

Initially Eyeris posed for almost all the photos like that.

Left with Pennypupz and Kelvin to grab some lunch and talked a hell lot about our mutual friends. The fact that she is from Subang too and is 17 this year should explain alot why we got on so well. Despite this being the first time we've met each other.

Frankly, everyone is so different from their blogs. I have to admit that I only read a handful of them, that being Eyeris, Ireneq, Jeff Ooi, Peter Tan, Suanie, Pennypupz and Dustyhawk.

Thanks Peter for organising such a fun meet, it's a good prelude to the PPS 2nd Anniversary Birthday Bash.

Hi, my name is Jolene and if there is a question in your head, this answer will definitely answer it: I was wrong and irrational. I was being a woman.

Jolene Lai, Jolene Lai,
Came to life in January and not July,
She is 19 years of age,
Can't wait to earn her own wage,
This dental student is home sick,
Will never be in Kedah for more than three weeks.

Subang Jaya is where she's from,
The only place she'll ever call home.
Has a boyfriend, a brother and a dog,
The things she says can give you a shock.

Especially for her father, who always gets a heart attack when he reads this blog.

Hey, rhymes!
