Can I Keep A Secret?

Jolene Lai should learn the true meaning of humility.

She should learn how to keep secrets to herself.

Especially the ones about herself.

But how can you still call it secrets when there are none to keep? Why do I ENJOY letting others peek into parts of me that they cannot see at a glance? By the way, that is NOT literally spoken.

My secrets may not be a matter of life and death but it reveals what kind of person I really am. Is there really such a thing as revealing too much?

I understand I have a reputation of being unable to contain juicy information to myself. But when people who (dare to)confide in me ask me to shut up about it, despite the initial difficulties, I stick to my word. Well, I seriously try and most of the time it is successful. No worries.

It may take alot of deep breaths to calm myself down so that I won't suddenly blurt out what I know. It's called will power. I may squirm in my seat, wanting to let the cat out of the bag.. but why risk friendships over a juicy piece of gossip?

Gossip is part of my heritage. My paternal grandmother gave me the skills.

So what happens when I have nothing to gossip about? OH. I gossip about myself. I am not the type to make up stories to intensify the degree of the juiciness of a piece of gossip. So I just tell it like it is. And I end up telling things to other friends that I don't usually say. AND I DON'T EVEN NEED ALCOHOL TO DO SO.

In other words, to keep a conversation going, I deliberately embarass myself.

I've nearly fallen out of friendships due to my inability to contain information to myself. So it is indeed a lesson learnt. Which is why I am who I am today. I'm wary about sharing other people's secrets and I still have that need to keep talking so I share my own.

Sometimes I wonder, what is too much? What is my value as a person when I have revealed things that normal people don't usually reveal to each other?

---
On a brighter note, after weeks of being cooped up at home buried in notes(hah!), I went out with Chee Kiang last night to one utama for dinner. It's great to see him again after like what, 4 months? Long distance SO sucks. But this is what we need to do, going out and getting engrossed in our conversations, catching up on 4 months worth of each other's lives. Even if I am smacked dab in the middle of my examinations. Three hours never killed anyone. I had a great time. :) Thanks for getting me out of the house, dear. Hehe.

I've been having trouble sleeping these past few days. I don't even feel sleepy until the clock strikes 5am. Even at 2am I tell myself, "Ok, start studying soon.. start studying soon.." and I open the book at 4am(due to a serious bout of procrastination) and close it at 4.30am. But it's fine because there's only half a subject left to study. So I can afford to not spend 8 hours slogging everyday. My sleeping hours are really screwed up though.

My parents dragged me out of the bed this morning at 11am. I haven't even taken 7 hours worth of sleep at that time. Oh and oh wow, we were going for a baby girl's birthday party! Whoohoo! I'm so excited!! I LOVe waking up at 11am when I slept at 5am to go to a one year old's birthday party and enjoy the nursery rhymes that they are blasting on the stereos at the party. I hope I get to play musical chairs too!!

Nah, I'm not that mean to kids. Surprisingly, I found myself scruffing their hair(especially the cute little boys!) and getting all broody looking at little girls with malibus for hairties. Kids below the age of 6 are still very cute. I lost my innocence at 7. Damn the damn maid for teaching me the ways of the sinful adult. There was one little boy at the party who was about 2 and the party mask he was wearing was too big for his face and he would tilt his head back(so that he can see) and run around the hall screaming "ATTTAACKK.." or something that sounded similiar. Toddler language. Me old lady no understand.

Oh, and I didn't get called an Aunty! *flashes peace sign*

One of my dad's friend's wife kept rubbing my arm and saying, "Ooyoh, so fair, so smooth no blemishes." .. ehehe, kembangnya aku. *flashes peace sign again*

Today's bad news is that I missed the second episode of Malaysian Idol. I have not had my daily dosage of laughing at other unfortunate souls. I'm going to be damn grumpy.

TVB Riches and Stitches Episode 20

I know two posts a day is uncalled for, but have you ever felt so out of breath after watching a very good episode of a VERY good chinese serial?

If I was to blog about a chinese serial, the 20th episode of Riches and Stitches would be a hell of a chinese serial episode because the last time I blogged about a TVB serial was a year ago.

Here's a link for those of you a) are too free b) have not watched the serial and would like to get a gist of the story.

Now, we addicts can get on with my episode review/rant.

Moses Chan's character is seriously damn pityful. He always gets beaten up for no reason at all. Who asked him to be so kay poh as to hang around after Eileen Yeow(Fong Siu Mei) got killed?!

Poor Moses got caught by the police when his brother Michael(Chun Cheong) ran away. Honestly, what kind of sick people are the police anyway, kicking and torturing poor Moses so that he can make their job easier by forcing him to sign the claims form? It's quite disgusting to see him being covered in blood which bled from his nose and his eyelids were sealed shut together because it was too swollen. It looks like they rubbed acid on his eyelids though.

Actually I think that Moses' character is quite durable. He has been beaten up so many times and yet he can still hang around for so long. In real life there should be a funeral already at around Episode 3 of Riches and Stitches.

I thought it was quite touching when he was being tortured by the police and you'd think he was going to die, but no, it's only episode 20, how can he die, and then he has flashbacks that one would get when one is subjected to a near death experience.

He saw himself as a kid talking to this Eunuch who is played by Alberto Lo(Yes, I know he has a strange name and yes I know I know too many TVB actors' English names) who praises him about his "great hands that will serve a purpose in the future." and his promise to Moses about protecting him no matter what.

Suddenly, we have this Alberto the Eunuch in a police uniform telling Moses not to worry and that everything will be all right and that he will save him no matter what. At this point I felt really sad for Moses because he was in so much pain, so it's okay to get hallucinations. Note that during the beating scene, he got whacked on the head repeatedly and fell on the floor and banged his head again. NEVER hit the head, lesson learnt.

Kwong Wah(Wing Lou Pan/Wing Hou Tong) comes to save the day again with his almighty triad boss power. Yay. Gigi Lai(Tong Tong) and Anne Heung(Po Hui Leng) showers Moses with concern. Bla bla bla. Mushy crap. Michael turns himself in to the police and you'd think everything is dandy and fine again.

This show actually revolves around Moses and his beautiful creation called the "Kei Pou". It's actually a type of cheongsam that the entire Shanghai has never seen before. Brought back into fashion from the Qing Dynasty by Moses(who is a tailor in the show). So we know that Moses is this guy who only hopes for his "kei pou" to gain popularity.

Cut to a scene with Moses sitting outside the hospital(oh, the show is set in the very early 1900s). We see this big bright flash of light and Alberto the Eunuch appears in front of Moses. We know it's a hallucination but we get worried when we see that Moses is very happy to see Alberto the Eunuch again. Alberto the Eunuch tells him that his "kei po" will have to serve as a mean for a revolution group to overthrow the current Republic. Long live the Qing Dynasty. He is told to make as many "kei pou" and secret letters are passed to the revolution group members through the "kei pou"s.

Now, remember the head banging on the floor scene? YES!! MOSES HAS GONE CRAZY!! ARGHHH!! At this point I was grabbing Angel and talking to the tv going "ARGHHH.. How can?!!". But I guess it does add a nice exciting twist to the serial. Moses who has always been so patient, so loving, so dilligent, so noble, so firm with his principles....loses his mind? Haw, haw.

So, Alberto the Eunuch is really his schizophrenic persona. The last scene had him approaching this abandoned house that in his eyes is this beautiful mansion done up in it's full glory. This is where the "revolution group meets" apparently. Silly Gigi follows him to the abandoned house and sees him "conversing" with Alberto the Eunuch.

I'm sure it's quite scary to see someone you respect so much suddenly talking to himself in such agigated tones. I understand how Gigi feels. Alberto the Eunuch "tells" him to kill Gigi because she "knows too much". Moses keeps screaming asking Gigi to go while he tries to "explain" to Alberto the Eunuch that Gigi's a friend. Gigi obviously wanting to help Moses tries to get him to snap out of it, and then the bloody credits roll across the scene when Moses clamps his hands around her neck. Gigi chokes. ...Sam...yi hor bla bla bla bla..*the theme song plays*

As our cantonese mothers would say, "Make show like that make,"(Jou Hei Hom Jou). Can't wait till next week.

Sorry for boring you non TVB enthusiasts. This post is an open discussion for my other readers to discuss the episode and *voice falls to a whisper* to displace my previous post if my father EVER does a surprise spot check on my blog anytime soon.

Hi, my name is Jolene and if there is a question in your head, this answer will definitely answer it: I was wrong and irrational. I was being a woman.

Jolene Lai, Jolene Lai,
Came to life in January and not July,
She is 19 years of age,
Can't wait to earn her own wage,
This dental student is home sick,
Will never be in Kedah for more than three weeks.

Subang Jaya is where she's from,
The only place she'll ever call home.
Has a boyfriend, a brother and a dog,
The things she says can give you a shock.

Especially for her father, who always gets a heart attack when he reads this blog.

Hey, rhymes!
