My Very First Blog Meme

David of narrowband.blogspot.com tagged me with this blog meme. Hehe, quite paiseh to say, but I am actually quite honoured as this is the first time I have been tagged by another blogger. :P

I actually met David through Project Petaling Street and we found it cool to know that we were both from Subang, and then we found it even COOLER that we were from the same primary school and started getting so excited when we have SO many friends in common. Just to name a few we have Kyle(and his sibling), Jocelyn Toh(and her sibling), Zachary(and his sibling), Jade Ho, Dennis, Ben Shyen, Joshua, Rosalyn etc etc. We even share the same standard 6 class teacher. Almost every other day when we talk more on MSN we'd utter the word, "Wah! Such a small world," at least a few times in every one of our conversations.

And just a couple of days ago, I found out I knew his sister since I was in standard 6. -_-. At least by name, don't think she knows me. :P

Anyway, let's get on with this bo-liao thing we call a meme. A meme is a game that bloggers pass on to other bloggers. Read on and see who gets tagged by me!:)

What follows is a list of different occupations. The reader must select at least five of them. The reader may add more if they like to the list before they pass it on (after the reader select five of the items as it was passed to the reader). Of the five selected, the reader is to finish each phrase with what he would do as a member of that profession. Then pass it on to three other bloggers.

If [Reader] could be a scientist // If [Reader] could be a farmer

If I could be a bonnie pirate... I'd be having mad sex with all the cute pirates on board. "A-hoy..A-HOY...A-HoYyYyyyyYYyy."

If I could be a monkey's uncle... I'd try to explain to the monkey that first of all, I am his aunty and I would teach him to preach to the other monkeys to not masturbate like clockwork monkeys to scare tourists away, especially the monkeys in Pulau Redang.

If I could be a grain of sand... I'd hope to catch the next wave and be carried to a far far away land.

If I could be a proctologist... you wouldn't want to smell my fingers.

If I could be a Miss Universe... there will be people who will slap the newspaper and say, "How can?!!"

-------------

Wow.. that was actually tiring. Ok, here's another three bloggers I shall pass this on to.

Melody, Matthew and Slinky

o/s: Screw the hiatus la. The worst of the exams are over. But I'll still study for the rest, of course. :P

The Singapore Blogosphere Fever

For the past three weeks or so, ever since I did a self-imposed hiatus, I've been suffering like mad rationing my online hours.

In the midst of my examination funk, I've acquired a new addiction. You know how it is, when you're supposed to be studying your ass off, anything seems more interesting than photosynthesis.

I don't know what took me so long to come across the Singapore blogosphere. It has such a large network and I'd be clicking through getting absorbed into the lives of our neighbours from across the causeway.

One thing though, I get influenced VERY easily. Reading Singlish everday, which is a little different from Manglish as Singlish is peppered with loads of "hokkien words", is doing something to my sub-concious vocabulary.

I keep seeing words like Ka Ni Na! Na Beh! Si Beh! KNNCBB. Obviously I know that they are vulgarities but it irks me as I do not understand exactly what it means!
I find myself rolling it around my tongue, trying out the sound.

"Ka nI nah Na Beh." I'd say to myself loudly and bang the table when I realise my careless mistakes in my maths work.

Do take note that I'm a cantonese, and even though I have a Hokkien grandmother, I cannot string a Hokkien sentence together that doesn't offend anyone.

I just find the pronounciations so cute! I've adopted it as my new swear words even though I don't know what it means.
Sometimes I add in Hokkien-sounds to add spice and length to my vulgarities.

Dropped the shower head, "Na Beh Beh Si kwong eh."

I don't know, that just sounds Hokkien.

To express surprise when discovering that my exam answers are wrong, "Si Beh?!"

I don't know, it sounds questioning in Hokkien.

"Beh keong si cho piang eh!" - just random Hokkien sounds popping into my head after hanging around the Singapore blogosphere for too long.

Now, I don't know if these are actual Hokkien words or are they actual genuine curse words that I've acquired as a child from my paternal Hokkien grandmother.

I've been meaning to ask my Hokkien friends what those words mean but can never remember to do so. Unfortunately, I only remembered when I was in Barry's mum's car. Don't think she'd appreciate me speaking like that, though.

So I suppose my self composed Hokkien vulgarities will have to go on for awhile more. Sigh. Ka Ni Nah Bo Si Beh Chi Hor..

One day I will correct myself and swear like a true Hokkien! Cantonese swear words are too old fashioned. Words like TIU and Lei Ah Mah are not fun to say anymore. Besides, they are too strong for a dainty lady like me. I need more casual swear words, words that allow me to curse with less impact.

I'm not implying that the Singaporean bloggers I've come across are all foul-mouthed, but I just enjoy to read the way they light-heartedly throw those Hokkien swear words(that I have not mastered) around.

The Singapore blogosphere is growing at a very high rate. The media has even taken to interviewing the top bloggers such as Xiaxue, mr brown and Mr.Miyagi.(By the way, my comment in one of Xiaxue's entries was actually quoted by the Straits Time! Unfortunately, I'm only known as "An emotionally attached fan".)

They are all fascinating reads that allow me divert my attention from my books for a few minutes each day. With the assistance of the ingenious idea
Tomorrow.sg, the Singapore blogging community is getting closer and tighter. In a way they are also sharing their words with us Malaysians(and the rest of the world too but obviously we can relate better) and they too get their daily dosage of the Malaysian blogosphere when we link each other up. What they have are FUNNY top bloggers that really pulls their community together. I have high hopes for Kenny to take on this position in our own blogosphere. He's got the coconut balls to do so.

However, don't get me wrong as I still love
Project Petaling Street as much as the next Malaysian PPS blogger! I can't wait for the portal's birthday bash which will be on the 23rd of June! I wonder if some of the anonymous bloggers will turn up and will they mind if I start snapping photos? I can always mosaic them out, if they do. :\

In the mean time, I'll be summoning my courage to drive down to KL on that night. But if I do chicken out(though I highly doubt so, need to be brave ok!! I hope I have Sarah in the car with me though..hope she's not working), it'd be nice to know if there are any nice Subang Jaya PPS bloggers who will allow a strange thick skinned fellow PPS blogger like me to tumpang their car down to KL. Hmm.. Jeff Ooi stays in Subang. Hahaha. Shall go send an email to him and see if it's cool.

LOL. I think he'll delete my email right away. "Little girls these days. Tsk, tsk. No shame,".

Hi, my name is Jolene and if there is a question in your head, this answer will definitely answer it: I was wrong and irrational. I was being a woman.

Jolene Lai, Jolene Lai,
Came to life in January and not July,
She is 19 years of age,
Can't wait to earn her own wage,
This dental student is home sick,
Will never be in Kedah for more than three weeks.

Subang Jaya is where she's from,
The only place she'll ever call home.
Has a boyfriend, a brother and a dog,
The things she says can give you a shock.

Especially for her father, who always gets a heart attack when he reads this blog.

Hey, rhymes!
