Photoblog: My New House, My New Life.

A photoblog about the first week in my new place. My new house is only a kilometre or two away from the university. That aside, I've made a major accomplishment in recent times.

Miraculously, on Monday morning, I woke up at 7.49am and could not go back to sleep.(I usually wake up at 9am and class starts at 9.30am -_-;. But nothing can beat my A-levels' days where I'd wake up at 8.20am for 8.30am classes). I even had the mood to go downstairs and pour myself some koko krunch and milk and read the papers, go online to satisfy my morning internet fix and finally change into something that looks the least crumpled among my un-ironed clothes. (Procrastination is a common disorder among young people).

I was awake for more than an hour before my classes started. I managed to copy every single damn thing the bullet-train Indian lecturer blasted at us and woooohooo my notes were in demand man. MY notes were in demand.

This might not seem much, but coming from the girl who falls asleep for more than 10 minutes in almost every class(but I've got a digital recorder to back me up, no worries)...this is a major achievement. So just humour me, can?

Shifting house is a major hassle.

We decided to eat at somewhere nice for our first meal as NON-Hostelites with the other classmates who were staying around our new housing area.

Cheers!!! Down with hostel!! Yeah!!

We ate at this place called Le Boss in Lagenda Heights(an area with loads of shop lots). Yes, yes, Kedah got such things.

My carbonara.. bleurgh. Not great.

On Thursday we had a 5 hours break before our sociology class(yes, why do I even need sociology classes is beyond me). And it was the opening day for Final Destination 3. This marks the first ever movie I've watched in Kedah!(scribbles date in diary).
Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
And this is how the opening day of Final Destination 3 in Sungai Petani looks like. 9 of us went for the movie and we had one whole row to ourselves plus the luxury of putting our legs up on the row in front and screaming and clapping without being a nuisance. Final Destination 3 is all about decapitating. Lovely pattern this time around though. Everyone stayed far away from my camera after the movie.

The Vincci in Sg. Petani was on sale. YES. Miracles happen in the strangest of places. Bought these lovely babies for 50% off. RM37!!

I could rub it all over my face, neck, skin, arms, stomach.....sniffing the newness of the tweed-pretending-to-be-velvet finishing propagates me with waves and waves of euphoria...*sniffffffffffff*

I refused to do any laundry before the arrival of The Washing Machine.

A little something to decorate my room with. I brought this photo to show my housemates quite sometime ago and forgot to bring it back to the photo album. This is Mervyn at 0 years old. Fat and heavy. Like a lump of pork! His digits had yet to be formed(See the Doraemon like hands).

I could actually *SHOP* in Kedah! Lovely glittery eyeshadow of different shades. Haiyah, cheapo brand only lah.

Somemore wall decorations.. a mirror and two bubble action figurines container. It's a ritual for my guests(so far only got about 6..) to blow some bubbles when they visit my room.

I know it's quite transparent. Will buy curtains soon.
Blinds=RM30 each. Chair=RM150. Blue plastic Ah Pek table=RM36. Bed frame=RM100. 8 inches mattress=RM300(i need a good sleep). Bed side table=RM55.

The RM20 shoe rack. My housewarming present to our household. :P

The almighty satisfactory chiropracter-visits-free washing machine. The three of us fight over who gets to press the buttons and pour the soap powder in...etc. RM580.

Our beautiful fridge. I open the door and stare at the peachy glow from its lamp and let the cool air sooth my troubles away..

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Oh!! Our first catered meal. Lovely stuff. It's like homecook food, only better!(heh, kidding mum!) But there's even herbal soup, herbal egg, poli sang choi, chee yuik etc. All we have to do is leave our tiffin carrier on the pillar and we have dinner at 6.30pm sharp. RM5.50 per meal.

Some decorations for the room. Glow in the dark glittery Hibiscus and Butterflies.... kecantikan!

It glows oh so brightly!!

After our first catered meal, we decided to check out the playground next to our house! Some boys from uni were playing basketball there. They play there every evening. Yeah, the housing area that I'm in has ALOT of students from AIMST. I'd say about 20%.

You'll know when you're wayyyy over the age limit for playgrounds is when your legs are as long as the playground ladder.

I used to do this alot as a kid. Balance, balance, balance and then kena marah by grandmother.

The beautiful sunset which can be seen from our garden. Hey, don't hate us just because we're staying next to Gunung Jerai.

While I was doing sit ups(no photos, later my market value go down like shit), Lie Yuen peered at me and asked me whether I wanted to go home already or not. I saw the moon behind her and snapped this picture. So nice right!!

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Perhaps one of my best shots to date. The effect is damn nice!! I asked Lie Yuen to stand behind the yellow glow of the street lamp, and the tree and the evening sky as a backdrop on slow shutter speed worked wonders!

I HAD to get one also, right?

International Women's Day: MY Article In The Star!!

.Last Tuesday(28/2), I received a call on my handphone during my physiology class. It was Liz Tai rom The Star(we met at the PPS bloggers' bash back in June) and she asked if I could contribute an article for Star Two in conjunction with International Women's Day and on top of that, I am even getting paid! But the money's not important.. I was over the moon. Hahaha. However, she said that she has already sent me an email but I did not get back to her. And she wanted my confirmation by the Saturday before that Tuesday or else she would ask someone else to write instead. -_-;.

I checked my abandoned hotmail account and sure enough there was an email there! Thanks Liz for giving me this opportunity!! (gmail's the active one, people!)

After rushing for a couple of hours for the article and doing a bout of camwhoring...I managed to send it to her on Wednesday and ta daaaa...

*click for a clearer image

No! I don't have a mole there! Printing error! At least I hope that it was only MY copy that has got that black mark there. But it's a small price to pay for having my mug to appear on the national papers.:) I can't find the link to this article though, maybe there isn't one. Found it!

Remember to frame my article up yah, people. :P

I was doing some comparing with my original article. I suppose the editor thought that my version was too crude. In the second last paragraph, I wrote, "Could the transition be from the moment you thought that the stains on your underpants were spaggheti sauce or the moment you put on your first slick of lip gloss?"

It has been changed to, "When does one turn into a woman? Your first period? Your first slick of lip gloss?"

Liz asked me for the contacts of two indian girls below the age of 25 to be interviewed(page2/3) and immediately, Narjit and Gaya popped into my head. :)  Nice photos of the two girls there with their extensive views on women today.

Have a nice day, people! I know I will! :)

SMK Subang Utama's 13th Interact Membership Drive

Once again the old fogey returns to SMK Subang Utama to see her precious Interact Club and to evaluate the quality of her Interact juniors. Hehe, just kidding. I am no longer in the position to give "evaluations" lah. This time, Mun Teng and I were the oldest there. I bet next year we won't even be called already because anyone younger than the 1989 juniors would not have known us. Sigh.

And I can still remember how to sing the Interact song. Out of tune, but nevermind.

Jade Tan, the vice president was kind enough to invite me and she asked me to pass on the invitation to the other board of directors of my year. Can, if the club was willing to pay for the president's, vice president's, treasurer's, funding director's and club service director's flight tickets from Australia.

Nevermind, Melody, Amanda, Esther, Abby and Zhuo Yan can read about it from my blog.

Sorry, Dennis, Josh. I would have called you guys but even I was pretty lost with the who's who of the Interact Club today so the only person you guys would've remembered would be Pn. Rajes. (Dennis was the vice president when I was in form1, and Joshua was the president when I was in form2. And I've been out of school for three years now. They'd be lost as well.)

I was pretty impressed that they finally had a proper hall to conduct the membership drive at and with pretty good sound systems as well. Even though it was open air but the vast zinc ceiling really amplified the sound.

I have a confession to make. We have always been shocked by the decision that Sook Yi became the president of the club because we've always believed that the future president of the Interact Club would already have been "Chosen By The Stars" when they were in form1. Meaning they were spotted and were unconciously groomed to lead the club. At least that's what Dennis The Legend told me. But like any other organizations, politics come into play.
We've only known Sook Yi through her involvement in the school's volleyball team.

But after today, I can truly say on behalf of the board of directors of my year(2002/2003) that Sook Yi was a fantastic choice as a president. The way she led the crowd and spoke with such confidence reminded me so much of Melody. And anybody who reminds me of Melody will definitely be a grand leader. Kudos to you, Sook Yi. :) I think you've done well.

So the other seniors who turned up were MY juniors and now my wee little juniors are all seniors now. I feel so old. After the event, the juniors-who-are-seniors allowed us old fogies to accompany them for lunch at Tanjung. Kah Kit enlightened me about the fact that there will be a horny/hamsap(I think he meant Confident, Brave and Charismatic) FEMALE board of director who will kacau people basically. Apparently, for my year I am the one, after my year was Wan Qi, after that, Shwe Ying and ..... I am not sure, but I think he said Nabilah is this year's pengacau.:) Hehehe. What kind of tradition am I setting for the club man..:P

*just mouse over the thumbnails to see my captions. Or better still, click on it to view it in all it's glory.

The amount of members who turned up were of a healthy number. But the club has seen better. The board of directors The backdrop is abit sad looking but at least it's eyecatching. Jiun Jeh would've cried though. Ohmigod....ALL girls. Only two guys in the board of directors. But it's always the case. Usually girls will attract more guy members hence next year's board of directors will be led my males. The theory has been proven true over and over again. l-r: Jade, Vice President; Sook Yi, president. l-r: Adelle, Shwe Ying l-r: Sze Ping, Kah Leong, Me l-r: Me, Kah Kit l-r: Sze Ping, Me, Mun Teng l-r: Kaang Cheing, Sze Ping, Me All the promising young faces l-r: Me, Boon Heng and Xiao Yu l-r: Mun Teng, Me, Sook Yi l-r: Me, Jia Le, Su Fern, Mun Teng, Zakhren, Nabilah Poh Nee and Me Sohail and Me. Sohail's working for EMI records now as a junior PR, if I am not mistaken. Once again, glad to see that his heart is very much with the Interact Club. back l-r: Kah Kit, Li Ming<br>front l-r: Sze Ping, Pn. Rajes, Me and Mun Teng Mun Teng and I camwhoring in our form2 class. Missing in the picture would be Chien, Li Peng, Melissa, Kevin, Kwo Kuang, Yijin, Chun Guan, Koon Seng, Eu Foh, Daryl, Chin Ju, Krystle, Yune-Ine, Marcus, Christopher Goh etc. Of course we had to go camwhore with the infamous Interact Notice board. We spent many of our school hours bumming around the bottom of the board decorating it to perfection. Didn't we? Oh, and many a good juicy gossip was passed to and fro beneathe it as well.(while we sat down and cut stuffs out to paste on the board we'll chat and stuff.:)) The steep slope that let's people from space read the words Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Subang Utama. Pei Yi and I

Andrew getting some dancing lessons As a super senior, I was given the chance to say a few words. Our handsome and charismatic ex-president of 2004/2005, Tan Li Ming Chung Lern! Chung Wei! This is your successor, Boon Heng. He takes really good shots. Just look at the one with me giving a speech. :P *heart, heart* Mun Teng and I camwhoring It is apparently an Interact tradition for the president's to suck their toes. Since when?! Pn. Rajes our teacher advisor(4 evaAaaa!) Myself and the oh so cute Vern Sheng that I tracked down on Friendster. Woot woot! Me and Sook Yi

Toilet also ng fong kor(don't let go). Those who were witnessing our silliness were Emily Kok and Evonne Teoh who were giggling at our weirdness. The pondok where we usually held our meetings, asked each other to be girlfriends/boyfriends, finished last minute homework, killed ants with liquid papers, did Valentine's Day projects etc. So fun. The walkway to the canteen held many memories as well.

Go to Boon Heng's Blog for prettier photos!

Some tail twistings going on.

Jade was made to sing The Barney Song and I have to say, she actually made the Barney Song sound MELODIOUS. Now, that's a pretty impossible feat, but she managed to do so. Click click click!!

Another "interact tradition". Why so many traditions formed after my year one? They had to spell Interact with their butts.

A dance is a must for any club events.

Hi, my name is Jolene and if there is a question in your head, this answer will definitely answer it: I was wrong and irrational. I was being a woman.

Jolene Lai, Jolene Lai,
Came to life in January and not July,
She is 19 years of age,
Can't wait to earn her own wage,
This dental student is home sick,
Will never be in Kedah for more than three weeks.

Subang Jaya is where she's from,
The only place she'll ever call home.
Has a boyfriend, a brother and a dog,
The things she says can give you a shock.

Especially for her father, who always gets a heart attack when he reads this blog.

Hey, rhymes!
