Justin's Birthday(and Mel's too!)

Firstly, Happy Belated Birthday to Mel and Justin!!

Before dance class, I sped over to Mel's place to pass her her birthday present! Esther and I got her the L'oReal Vitamino hair mask. Love the Vitamino hairmask. mmmmm.

Dance Class was abit congested. Three new students. *sigh*. Now there are 13 of us. At first it was just 7 of us.

Since Mel spent her birthday with her dear Vjay, we joined Justin for his birthday dinner at Salmon Steak! Thanks Justin for the dinner!

Last night was really a reunion of sorts! Besides the usual friends of Justin ie. Daryl, Gaya, Nadine, Jasmine, Chung Lern, Afiq, Huini, Pei Sze etc.etc.. there were others like Seow Yen, Woon, Priscilla, Chui San, Yi Wen etc. A bunch whom I haven't seen since school ended in 2003. They are all still very, very noisy.

I was surprised to find out that Mel and Vjay were also having their dinner at Salmon Steak!

As always when there are pictures, I will save the lot of you from my ramblings. Here goes:

l-r: Chung Lern, Huini, Mun Teng, Woon, Yi Wen

Chung Lern who is ever ready for the camera! seriously!

Camwhoring with Seow Yen!

Daryl doing a pose for me. I think he was counting the amount of people at the table.:)

l-r: Me, Esther and Afiq! Afiq was showing us the photos he took using his phone while he was doing a solo flight!! So cool!!! 2000 Ft up in the sky and he CAN take pictures of the landscape beneath with his camera phone! There was a video too!! And then he camwhored WHILE flying his plane!! COOOOOOL. He looked like Ron Ng(Isaac) from Triumph In The Skies in that picture he took!! All of us cannot wait for Afiq AND Yijin to graduate and become proper pilots.:) We don't want free flights, we just want to be flown by our own friends. How nice would that be?:)

Afiq was telling me about how crazy Yijin is. LOL. Apparently on Chap Goh Mei, Yijin and a few friends went looking for a river so that they can pick oranges that girls have thrown. LOL. They couldn't find a river! Hahahaha. Whereelse Daryl went to Port Klang and found an orange by the sea. There was a phone number on the orange! So Daryl smsed the number. The girl asked how old he was. He is actually 19 this year but he said he was 18. Then the girl who said she was 19, replied, "Sorry ar boy." HAhaahahahahaha. Just one year apart also cannot ar? Picky picky mandarin oranges throwers. LOL.

Goodness, even if I wanted to throw mandarin oranges into the river/sea I wouldn't be able to. There ain't no mandarin oranges that will not land in my tummy the moment I set my eyes upon it. I am the mandarin orange monster! I specialize in mandarin orange sweetness too:) Ask me one day and I'll teach you how to determine if the orange is sweet or not.

Okay, back to the picture..:P

l-r: Chui San, Seow Yen, Me, Esther

Just before Mel and Vjay left, they came over to say hello!

The birthday boy and me! Happy Belated Birthday, Justin!!

My god, this two people were talking half way to the people on their right and left respectively and when they saw my camera they immediately moved towards each other to give me this post. -_-;. Hahaha. A nice picture though!
l-r: Chung Lern and Huini

But of course, we HAVE to do one everytime we're together. My Esther dearest and me!

l-r: Me, Esther and Afiq.

Quite a number of people eh?

Gaya and me! It's been so long since I saw this woman:) Miss her noise.

l-r: jasmine, Nadine and Rachel.

Made friends with Daryl's coursemate, Ian. Very adorable lad. Gaya was pointing at me and saying, "This is Rachel," and she pointed at Rachel and said that Rachel was Jolene, and pointed at Jasmine and said, "this is Nadine," and pointed at Nadine and said, "and this is Jasmine.".. Hahaha. He looked so confused, so I stuck my hand out and said, "Hello I'm Jolene.." lol.

He wasn't looking the first time. Ahaha.

l-r: Me, Nadine, Gaya

The lovely couple: Rachel and Jonathan. Go away la Chung Lern! Shoo!!:D

Arif, Yi Wen and Chui San surprised Justin with a cake.

Awwwwwwwww.. look at the glow of the candles illuminating their happy faces.

Tsk, tsk, look at Chung Lern.

Another view of the people.

l-r: Mun Teng and Woon

There were a bunch of fit guys sitting behind the guy in yellow who sang along to justin's birthday song! Since they were so nice, Daryl brought some cake over to them!

Justin was given a huge candy!!:D Nolah, I'm not quite sure what it is.

My present to him! Sorry Justin, I only had Winnie The Pooh wrapping paper left.

He was still trying to figure out what it was.

"OH!! IT'S UNDERWEAR!!!" So cute right, at the crotch there's a logo that says, "Danger.". Hee.

An underwear in a jar intrigued many.

That'd be Daryl and Priscilla.

Soon after, Esther's dad fetched us back and we had a nice chat making plans to go to KLCC at 5am again like back in 2003 to get the new Harry Potter book! Whee!

A Daily Adventure To Lunch

If you're not a student at Taylor's College(or even Inti and Metro), you will not understand what I am trying to say today.

There is a very narrow road just outside the college where students throng almost every hour to make their ways to cafes and restaurants for RM3 meals(if you're lucky). Cars are parked left and right and students with big bags are jostling each other around.

MPSJ towtrucks will be towing P-stickered cars that are parked illegally and one will have to be wary when a truck passes by because the platform's wheels could easily roll over your feet. Don't worry, the MPSJ people will have the courtesy to yell out warnings as they are approaching. "Hoi, tepi sikit!!"(If I'm lucky enough to have foreign visitors, that meant, Hoi, to the side!!)

It doesn't help with the fact that the afternoon sun maintains a very high intensity of glare(got such thing ar?) and can actually temporarily blind you, leaving you in a daze as you make your way back to college against the on-coming traffic of other lunch-goers. Hence somemore knocking with fellow collegemates(that you can't even see).

As you walk by the side, you have to be careful of YOUR bag(the area is very prone to snatch thefts), your hips as it will be the same level as the side view mirrors of the parallel parked cars(why, some of them have been pushed the other way too.) and of course, your poor feet as the MPSJ towtruck comes rolling by with some illegally parked spankin' new car.

If you slow down your pace you're afraid to create a disruption in the rhythm of the long line of college kids walking behind you. If you walk too fast you're afraid of banging into the on-coming traffic of lunch-goers. It takes skills, yo. You need to know when to swerve and to estimate the size of your bag and your college mate's bag so that when you pass each other it doesn't entangle.

However, there are very inconsiderate people standing along the way. A group of friends will stop to chat hence forcing the long line behind them to walk AROUND them.
And when you walk AROUND them your rhythm is lost. When your rhythm is lost, you feel a little dizzy. When you feel a little dizzy, there's a higher chance in getting rolled over by the MPSJ towtruck. When you get rolled over by an MPSJ towtruck, the RM21000(unless you have some sort of scholarship) your parents paid to put you through college will go to waste. Oops, let me digress here. Do I remember something about someone saying that if you jump off the roof of the college and injure yourself, they will pay for your leg-repairing fees? Haha. Hmm.

Now if the cars were to zoom by that tiny road everyday, I can assure you the mortality rate of the students of that college area will be so high it's not even funny. That is why I am grateful for the cars to go really slow and it is as if we have some sort of understanding with the cars that pass by that road everyday. After every car that passes by, a small group of students would be able to cross the road. I don't know why, but it just happens!

Things would be better if overpopulation is not an issue. A very good example of overpopulation would be when I was walking back into college after lunch at Burger King, I saw this girl with the prettiest earrings ever!(have taken to looking at others' dressing in recent times.. me shallow? Nah,just no money to buy fashion mags) She had those long chained ones that ends with a sweet pink goose feather. AWWW. And then I banged into this girl who had a fake accent who went, "OuH I Ahm Sou Sorrey.." and she peculiarly repeated it with her friend as they walked away laughing.

By the way, fashion in Taylor's College and the areas surrounding it has become far more interesting recently. Like today, I saw a beautiful tweed pink bag and asked the owner(a complete stranger!) where she bought it from. Times Square, apparently.

All I'm asking for is that I end my days here(as a college student la, CHOI!) as soon as possible before I fashion-watch myself along the busiest road in SS15 to an early death.

Sepet

Because I didn't want to waste anymore time as the exams are so near, I decided to watch the show by myself as the girls couldn't come with me. I needed to get presents for Mel and Justin too, so might as well.

Decked out in my new baby blue Old Naxy jumper, I made myself comfortable in my allocated seat and didn't feel alone at all.

Then the opening credits came on. A very unique one at that.

Please do not read on if you are one of those who like to be "surprised". If there are more of you like me out there who want to know everything about a show before watching it, then highlight the words below and read on.

The opening credits was presented to us in such a unique way. A long line is drawn forming the names of the cast and crew in its wake. Cute squiggly drawings that doesn't break off from the line decorates it's presentation. An old chinese song plays comically in the background.

The opening scene sees Ah Loong having a light hearted chat with his nonya mother. Very spontaneous speech. He converses in cantonese whilst his mother speaks in malay. Interesting:). The only other nonya family I've seen is Mel's. But it's her grandma who speaks malay in the family and she speaks to her grandma in malay too!
I'll cut to the chase: Orked looks like she comes from a middle class malay family whereelse Ah Loong seems poor. His housing condition shows it all.

Something about the show makes me feel that it's of a different era. Probably because the location they used was Ipoh, what is deemed to be a small town area. When Ah Loong gave Orked his telephone number on a slip of paper, I can't help but wonder, "Why telephone number? Why not e-mail address? They could probably chat on msn first or something." I realized it was nothing that we Klang Valley kids can relate to, something so old school but still beautiful. The story doesn't tell us exactly when they really got it on but it's just the sweet things that they do together that makes you go awwww.

Picture from The Star Online

If that movie was filmed in 2004 and they were waiting for their SPM results, that means the characters took their SPM in 2003, just like me! :D Oooh!!

Picture from The Star Online

That's one from my favourite scene. He asks her,"How long does it take for someone to fall in love?" and she says, "A minute." She asks, "How long did it take you to fall in love with me?" and he says something like, "Less than that." Oh I don't know if those were the exact words, but my tears just cascaded down like a waterfall.

I like the scene where Mak Enom and Pak Atan dances on a full moon night. LOL. So funny. Any scenes with the both of them were great. With Mak Yam in the picture, it got funnier. Especially the Maghrib part. He looked defeated when all the women in the house had their period and couldn't go pray with him. Teeheehee. Another nice scene was one with Ah Keong and Ah Loong talking in the hospital. It was so real, no pretense at all. Haha, and especially the part where he says, "Malay girls in wet sarongs eh.." and reaches into his pants. LOL. Well, I see we're going somewhere eh, Malaysian Censorship Board.*claps hands*.

The touching scenes were like when Ah Loong put his head on his mother's laps and wept into it not knowing what to do. When Orked finally decided to read his letter on the way to the airport and crying as she was halfway through the letter.(yes yes, I was sitting in a puddle of my own tears by then) and of course the last scene.

I think Ng Choo Seong's portrayal as Ah Loong was a genuine one. Every smile and every shy stare. Very refreshing. He will be the man who single handedly brings thick eyebrows and chinese eyes back to fashion. He.is.hot. I like his soft spoken tone. It makes you feel like you're alone with him. Like the world has no one else. Funny at times, down to earth. But oh so solemn. I like. By the way, just as I was typing this, Justin told me something that got me going, "OH YEA!"

Doesn't he looks similiar to Choo Seong?? Hahaha. He said one day the kitchen staff(He works part time for Manhattan Fish Market) was reading the papers and they said, "ehh! ehh! You look like him!" Hahahaha.. Yeah!! The eyebrows and the eyes man. Damn, Justin, just dye your hair la:) hahahaha. But me thinks Choo Seong would have dyed his hair back to it's original colour as he will no longer be in character. Or maybe not?

Justin said he looks sad in this picture. Well he has every right to be; Chooi Chuan was leaving for Melbourne. Since I'm doing connections with celebrities here I may as well throw this in. Chooi Chuan is Michelle Yeoh's niece. Anyway, yeah. So he gave me another picture.

He says he looks happier here! He's first from right. Well, Justin is really 19. Just like Choo Seong's fictional age. Apparently a few people were looking at him curiously when he walked out of the cinema.

Sharifah Amani, I expected her to be somewhat demure and timid. The shy blushing lass. Oh, but no! She was so cheeky and basically said whatever that was on her mind. I especially loved the part where she was scolding Lin's boyfriend. Great crying skills and (sometimes)good cantonese intonations. I didn't know she was Aleya's sister!(the girl who hosted Malaysian Idol). Funny girl.

When the credits started to roll, I wondered, who was that on the phone? Was it a flashback? According to some interviews with Yasmin Ahmad, apparently, at that point, the movie belongs to the audience. It is up to us to decide what happened.
Some guy sitting behind me said, "Boleh jadi Spielberg la dia tu".

When I gathered my things and started to leave, I saw Alan Yun's name as Ah Loong's brother. Wha? The guy's like "Malaysia's Top Model"(or so says the search engines) and he only got two lines of dialogue? Ahaha. Poor thing. He looked so boring in the show when in actual fact he's this yummy candy of a man. He's the guy who was in the Pepsi Ad(the one where he dashes out in the rain?) back in 2000.

Oh right. As I was coming out of the toilet after I went in to cry somemore, guess who was walking out of the men's at the very moment I walked out of the ladies'? Barry and Suet Li decided to catch the same movie at the same time. Sigh. Hahaha. Oh, malunya. They were like, "Aiyoooo, why never tell us....".. Hahaha. Shame. But anyway it was a good experience and it was really worth it. Don't think I would've cried so much if I wasn't alone. Shy nye. The both of them saw how red my eyes were. To quote Barry, "Dahlah Mata Sepet, cry somemore lagi sepet." Looks like someone got media influenced.

Hi, my name is Jolene and if there is a question in your head, this answer will definitely answer it: I was wrong and irrational. I was being a woman.

Jolene Lai, Jolene Lai,
Came to life in January and not July,
She is 19 years of age,
Can't wait to earn her own wage,
This dental student is home sick,
Will never be in Kedah for more than three weeks.

Subang Jaya is where she's from,
The only place she'll ever call home.
Has a boyfriend, a brother and a dog,
The things she says can give you a shock.

Especially for her father, who always gets a heart attack when he reads this blog.

Hey, rhymes!
