My Period Pains Part 80

My 80th period arrived this morning.

Since I have not eaten anything in the morning, I thought that it was unwise to take menstrual panadols on an empty stomach for fear that I may start retching. I don't want to break my record for not vomitting since the eve of my Penilaian Tahap Satu examination in std3(1996).

I decided that I could wait it out and have my lunch first before popping the pills. Mum suggested that we head over to SS19 for our lunch and it'd be convenient to go to Chien's place to get some biology test papers from her as well.

Upon reaching the chinese coffee shop, I ordered a bowl of Kuay Teow Soup and moodily shuffled over to the empty tables. I slumped on the chair and barked out for hot chinese tea. Nothing cold.

My food arrived and so did my drink. That's when the pain started. I looked at my food and attempted to press the spring onions into mush with my chopstick while waiting for that slight contraction to be over. However, the pain intensified. I had to lie on the table for awhile. Who cares if the salesman who was having his lunch was looking at me curiously? I don't care if the bunch of mechanics who were taking a break pointed fingers at me.

I started to moan in pain and was close to tears. There was a sharp pain shooting up and down my abdomen. Each time the pain shoots down I had to lift my bum off the chair and bear the pain. This repeated about at least 5 times. I thought I needed to go to the hospital.

My mum took forever to finish her (enticing)teh ais. I still had to go back to Chien's place to return her biology papers to her. I dived into the backseat and remained in a horizontal position until we reached home.

Upon arriving home, I half squat outside the grilled door while my mum fumbled with the keys. Once the doors were opened, I made a mad dash to the toilet and removed all forms of garments that covered me from the waist down.

I sat on the toilet bowl with my legs up.(trishaw puller style).
That's my comfortable position. It's not disgusting. Comfort outweighs grossness.

I was seriously contemplating on positioning my legs on the basin for maximum comfort which was just in front of the toilet bowl but decided that it would not go too well if there was residue on the sides of my toilet seat.

Apparently, the pain was so fucking great because I was suffering from shitting pains AND period pains. Oh the horror.

I lay my head on the sink while awaiting the nightmare to end and cold beads of sweat trickled down my forehead. My hair was loose and the scrunchie was dangling at the ends of my ponytail. My fringe was plastered all over the sides of my head. I bent down and a puddle of sweat formed on the bathroom tile.

I was too tired to wipe my own ass. It took every ounce of energy in my body to reach for the bidet to shoot my ass clean and I unravelled the tissue roll and dabbed myself dry. No prizes for guessing the colour of the tissue paper. It's not brown. Think Chinese New Year.

I pulled up my panties and my shorts and immediately ran out of the toilet because I needed to lie down. I turned on the hall fan and lay on the cold terrazo floor. You should have seen the many positions I contorted myself into in hopes of finding the ONE position that could ease the pain. My leg was tucked in on one side and my hand was pointing diagonally away from me. I lifted my tummy up and down but got tired soon after. I lay on my tummy, the pain intensified. My mother kept asking me to eat my pau so that I can eat my medicine. But I told her I didn't have the energy to sit up, let alone eat a pau.

Angel was very kind. She hovered over me and licked my hands and looked at me with so much concern I felt like hugging her but I was in so much pain. She lay by my side throughout the entire half an hour that I was wriggling and moaning on the floor. She has a good heart, that dog. Despite her greedy and hamsap ways.

The pain intensified to a greater extent and I actually wondered if anybody ever died from period pains. Empty stomach or not, I popped two pink menstrual panadols and ran up the stairs(once again, the need to lie down outweighs the amount of energy left in my body) and lay spread eagled on my parent's bed. My mum took out a plastic mat and placed it beneath my ass so that I will not stain her bed. The aircon cooled my body temperature down and I felt at ease.

I swear by pink menstrual panadols. Within half an hour, my mind wandered off to something else and I realized I totally forgot about the pain and it wasn't bothering me! I slipped into a peaceful slumber for an hour and when I woke up, the pain was gone!

Cheerful once more, I bounced down the stairs and grabbed the two paus, turned the tv on to watch the Riches and Stitches repeat on Wah Lai Toi.

Now, back to the biology books.

Oh dear. Despite the laughs (Damn I couldnt hold it, I love your story), I can't help but feel sorry - I know a friend who used to suffer period pains to the extent of being bed-ridden for almost the entire day. I mean, surely there's a way to go about preventing or reducing such terrible pains. Exercise, perhaps?

It's interesting that you counted... Is 80 the real, as in the real real, figure?

Yes, yes. Girls have limited amounts of periods coz' of limited amount of ovums. Unlike guys, with unlimited amount of sperms.

Taking science was never a waste. Haha..

EPO is good. but previously i've been taking vit E (for the purpose of clearer skin actually) and found that it reduces period cramps too! used to rely on ponstan! was really bad okay.

think about it this way...they (a few of my older friends) say that childbirth is like period pain but maybe about 3-4 times worst (don't know how they actually calculate!! *hehe*). so at least you're more or less prepared for childbirth. those who don't experience any pain is spared now but they wouldn't know what my friends meant, right? at least you have a rough idea (though a very painful one!)

sHEe: Wow!!! Sounds like something I should try too.. .. but vomitting? that's abit too kesian:( i had to come home from school tooo..

lynnee: scary. I heard something about breast cancer.. or is that birth control pills? hmm . k lah..:) we try it together. LOL.. that guy must have been brought up well by his mother:)

cherry: I don't get PMS that much.. only when I'm in great pain I can only make grunting noises when posed with questions of concern. addicted huh? :) lol.. nahlaa, no worries. I only take about two every month. Or is that already bad enough? 0_0

c: I'll pull out my bloody uterus after my 2/3rd child. Gahhhhhh..

ee-von: ahahah..you don't like pictures? :( Susah-payah aku mengambil gambar gambar untuk mengentertain you orang...(or you don't understand BM? I said, the sufferings i go through to entertain you guys with those pics..:P)

LOL I was seriously considering reenacting the scene and getting my mum to take a pic. You know like the part where I was wriggling on the floor. Don't worry I'll never snap a pic of my blood-soaked pad.

EPO's my best friend. It lowers menstrual pain and best of all, it keeps PMS at bay too. But it doesn't work wonders. There are still times when my PMS is just terrible. Nonetheless, I can say that it works at least 80% of the time.
Try it. You probably won't regret.

If you can, don't take Panadol Menstrual. Not good. Any pain killers are bad. Later you get addicted to it. I'm already a pain killer addict cos I have to take seriously strong ones to get rid of my headaches. Don't be like me.

Periods come. Periods go. Sometimes you wish you don't have them. But sometimes you just wish for it come! :)

i'm also a panadol menstrual popper. always have to have a blister pack of the stuff on hand.

just this week my colleague warned me that taking panadol menstrual is actually bad for fertility in the long run.

he (yes, a HE) recommended evening primrose oil. i think i'll give that a try. can't be depending on those little pink pills forever. he has a point about them being hazardous in the long run.

i started taking EPO a month ago, after much recomendations from friends and doctors. Seemed that more or less the pain got lesser as well.

I used to have as bad pains as you do too. I remember being absent from school once a month, if it happens on a school day. I would vomit at school, then my mum would come to fetch me home.

Hi, my name is Jolene and if there is a question in your head, this answer will definitely answer it: I was wrong and irrational. I was being a woman.

Jolene Lai, Jolene Lai,
Came to life in January and not July,
She is 19 years of age,
Can't wait to earn her own wage,
This dental student is home sick,
Will never be in Kedah for more than three weeks.

Subang Jaya is where she's from,
The only place she'll ever call home.
Has a boyfriend, a brother and a dog,
The things she says can give you a shock.

Especially for her father, who always gets a heart attack when he reads this blog.
