The Much Hyped Play: Hip-Hopera

Today the only time I stepped out of the house was to put some clothes out to dry. In other words, it was supposed to be a me me me day. I've gone out too much for the past week. I managed to clean out my entire wardrobe. I even managed to create a blog archive page for my blog. :) I have yet to put it up. I'll put it up on geocities and will link it here. Just wait. I only have two more months worth of links to add then I'll be done! It's slow because I was folding all the clothes that I own while making this archive page.

While clearing out my wardrobe, I found about 2 pieces of halter that I've never worn before. The price tags were still on. Same goes for a sleeveless sweater and an aunty-ish skirt.

Here are some scary pictures of my very messy room:

My unkempt wardrobe

"I'm leaving you, you stupid two timing bastard..asshole !!!"

..and this are all the t-shirts(that i will only wear at home..no where else) I've been given/bought during my secondary school days.

Jacq, I found your Mickey Mouse t-shirt.
chien, your brother's black shirt. :| sorry!

Ta-da! Arranged according to style, Lab coat, no-genre tops, togas, halters, mini-skirts, knee length skirts, tailored shirts, long sleeve shirts, coats/blazer/jackets, formal dresses, casual dresses, pants. Good girl!

Yesterday I attended the Hip Hopera's rehearsal. I'm supposed to be doing their makeup for them. Hmm. And I thought I was just helping out. I didn't know it was that serious for me until ming Choi asked me for my name to be put under Make-Up in the programme book. Shia Lynn told me that I was sort of the only one doing their make-up. and hair. Upon hearing the word hair, I made a mental note to call Su-Chien for help. But it's okay. I don't mind. I even enjoyed watching them waste time like any other normal Malaysians and get into the whole professional mood.

Kyle, when he saw me, screamed my name, "JOLENEeeeeee!!!" and bounced towards me and beckoned me over to help him choose some costumes for his scene. His character is supposed to be an Ah BEng-ish kind of guy. Hehe. He did quite a good job and he's very serious about it.

Not as serious as their abit mad director Phoon Chi Ho(is that his name? I can't remember). I arrived and immediately noticed him having long conversations with people from the end of the lecture theatre while he was still standing on the stage. And when he wants something done, he will talk really fast and has this wild wild look in his eyes. Ahahaha. Quite a sight to behold. He's got this whole bundle of energy that he channels into the people working for him.

Dhivia's got a good voice though! I really like to hear her sing that love song that she has with this other guy called, Mun Joon issit? Not too sure. That's something to look out for. They had this one scene where they are supposed to be falling in love while singing this love song. It's a musical. Admittedly, they were doing it a little bit boringly. And then comments from the crew were thrown at the pair from every angle. The supervising lecturers had the most say.

I remember back in secondary school, the teacher advisors always made sure that they were there to ruin the mood for everyone by imposing the stupidest rule.

But na-ah. What the lecturers said yesterday was, "It's SO boring!! There's not enough touching!! Touch!! I need to see somemore touch!!!! It's so boring! I want my Rm10 back!!!!" .. lol

And then the director jumped on stage and guided them abit more. And he told them what they were lacking off was "sexual tension". That the guy should do the 'playing with the belt buckle' bit.. which the lecturer yelled jovially at him to 'get off the stage la'. Then this director guy was like, "Hmmm.. I'm too young to know what sexual tension is." lol!!

One thing to watch out for is definitely the opening scene. Quite artistic. But the cast will have to work on their speed and their voice projection.

They were very professional in the sense that they video taped their acting to see what they're doing wrong.

Here are some pics.. I know the quality is horrible.. But i wasn't using flash, I only relied on the spotlights.

The director showing the characters how to do a certain scene.

..part of the scene..

another scene. that's dhivia and munjoon i think.

another scene. pheeweet.. it's like a trailer.

l-r: the guy who helps them with their singing, the guy who helps around with i-dunno-wat, the crazed director(his quite nice actually, he and kyle were playing with my makeup) and the main actor.

the voice guy and the crazed director.

Sorry Kyle, I didn't dare take out my camera too early into the rehearsal. Sorry ya! I'll try to put pics up of you in the show next time!

Shia Lynn smsed me just now. She asked me to be there at 2pm tomorrow. Argh!! That is mad. And what time does the show start?! 8pm i tell you!!

Well, hope it enticed you just a bit.
To those who are interested, Hip Hopera was originally performed at the Actor's Studio in 1998 and are revived by our own collegemates here at Taylor's College.
Tickets are sold at RM10 and the show will run from Sept 10-12. That'll be Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The time will be 8pm.
The venue will be at Lecture Theatre 1, Taylor's College Main Campus.

Hi, my name is Jolene and if there is a question in your head, this answer will definitely answer it: I was wrong and irrational. I was being a woman.

Jolene Lai, Jolene Lai,
Came to life in January and not July,
She is 19 years of age,
Can't wait to earn her own wage,
This dental student is home sick,
Will never be in Kedah for more than three weeks.

Subang Jaya is where she's from,
The only place she'll ever call home.
Has a boyfriend, a brother and a dog,
The things she says can give you a shock.

Especially for her father, who always gets a heart attack when he reads this blog.

Hey, rhymes!
